Frank Souder LONG and Cevilla Cressman NASE

Frank Souder LONG was born 23 January 1871 in Salford Township, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. He was baptized 17 Aug 1871 in a white Luthren church in Ridge Valley. Frank is the son of Enos LONG and Leah Lovina SOUDER. He married Cevilla Cressman NASE (aka NACE) on 1 July 1893.

Cevilla (Sevilla) is the daughter of David B. NASE and Ellamanda CRESSMAN. Sevilla (as spelled on the census) was born 19 August 1874 also in Salford Township.

Enos LONG's ancestral line is: Johann Jacob << Johann Adam b. 15 Jul 1768 << Johann Jacob << Elias LANG << Michael LANG b. 19 Jun 1691

Frank Souder LONG died 15 March 1942, and his wife Cevilla sadly died 7 February 1908 (4 days after delivering their tenth child). They are both buried in the Ridge Valley Mennonite Cemetery; GPS location: 40° 22.655N 75° 22.732W

Frank and Sevilla's Children

My records show that marriages occur to surnames of NACE, KULP, STEINMETZ, GODSHALL, KILVINGTON, BENNER, and FREDERICK. I also show that most of the family was buried in the Ridge Valley Cemetery in Montgomery County, PA

In the 1870 census records the family of Enos and Leah was found living in Lower Salford Township. The following children found were: Mahlon, Emmaline, Abraham, Mary Catherine, and Frank. Later in 1880 the family is found in Upper Salford with 3 additional children: Edwin, Maggie, and Jane (see scanned census record toward the bottom of this web page).

During my research I also found death records of a Jacob S. Long d. 9 Apr 1944 age 77, and a Emma S. Long d. 6 Jan 1953 age 91. Not sure that they are related (I believe this Emma may be). Both are buried at Ridge Valley, Souderton, Montgomery Co., PA.

Below is a picture of some of Frank and Sevilla's children.

The above picture shows five of the children. The consensus is that the two gentlemen in the back are Clayton and Milton. Sevilla is on the left; and it is believed that the middle person is Frank with youngest brother Joe on the right.

These next pictures are possibly of Milton (left) and Clayton (right).

1840 Census Information

I show a Jacob Long with a code of 1201001 2010001
It doesn't quite work out (compare) to the information I have, but I'm pretty confident that this is our Jacob. I just can't quite prove it.
As you may or may not know, the 1840 code's first series of numbers refers to males, and the second series of numbers refers to the females. The left-most number is the number of children between 0 and 5, then 5 to 10, 10 to 15, 15 to 20, 20 to 30, 30 to 40, ... NOTE: This 1840 Census information is now online. Click here.

1850 Census Information

The 1850 Census of Upper Salford shows father Jacob LONG age 53 as a Shoemaker and wife Alesabeth (Young) age 52. Enos is age 20 (also a Shoemaker), and additional children are: Christina age 17, Jacob age 14, and Alesabeth age 12.

This 1850 census record shows David B. Nase age 11 with parents of Abraham age 37 and Sarah age 37. There is also an Alesabeth Barnett age 65 as part of the household. Sorry this is so dark, but it gives you a little taste of what a pain (sometimes) census record research can be. :o)

1880

This 1880 census shows David B. Nace (or Nase) at age 41 with wife Amanda age 34 with daughter Sevilla Cressman Nase age 6.

And here is the family of Enos Long and Lovina Souder showing the youngest of the eight known children per the 1880 census of Upper Salford. Note: I do find an Emma Long age 19 in Upper Salford, but the age should be 17.

Cressman and Nase/Nace Information

Ellamanda (or Amanda) Cressman descends from Israel Cressman and Elizabeth Low, daughter of Jacob Low and Elizabeth Wolford. Israel and Elizabeth had children: Amanda, Henry, Benjamin (or Frank), Milton, Matilda, and Edwin (all according to the 1860 and 1870 censuses from Salford township).

The only one I know about is Amanda who married David B. Nace (son of Abraham F. Nace). David and Amanda had two children (see 1880 Upper Salford census above). Sevilla Cressman Nase is listed as age 6, and younger sister Emeline is 6/12 (born Nov. 1879). Note: There is also a Henry Nace age 50 living in the household at this time as well, and various other Nase families are in this same neighborhood.
