  Sunday teams/seeding

These are the teams playing SATURDAY in nearly final seeding order.

Keep checking this page for updates.  Seeding has changed and is changing based on responses and further consideraton.  Please check your team and send in comments (on your team and any others).  Your seeding will determine which division you're in (see below).  It's likely you won't know many of the teams, but feel free to say which division you'd like to be in or think you belong in based on other teams you know.  If you're basing on GHHH! history, you should know that the strength of teams goes much deeper this year than in the past (at the top level both days and all the way through Saturday).

We've had to adjust the format to best protect the fields from damage due to melting snow.  We are going to have a 16-team DIV 1 and an 8-team DIV 2.  We'll attempt to form a pickup team to fill the last spot in DIV 2 if you know anyone who wants to play, have them show up Saturday morning by 8:30.

(Teams in blue are playing both days. We may adjust Sunday's seedings after Saturday's results are in.)

Saturday formats and seeding:
There are too many teams that want DIV 1 to have an 8-team division as usual.  Most likely we'll go with a 12- or 16-team DIV 1.  Here are the most likely options

DIV 1: 16 teams; DIV 2: 8 teams
DIV 1: 12 teams; DIV 2: 12 teams
DIV 1: 12 teams; DIV 2: 6 teams; DIV 3  6 teams
DIV 1: 10 teams; DIV 2: 14 teams
DIV 1: 10 teams; DIV 2: 8 or 6 teams; DIV 3: 8or 6 teams

Format for 16 teams:
4 balanced pools of 4 teams.  3 rounds pool play.
6-ROUND OPTION:  Quarters, semis, finals for upper and lower brackets.
60-85 minute rounds.  Pool play games capped under 60 min.
5-ROUND OPTION:  Semis, finals for pool winners only;
pool #2s, 3s, 4s play one crossover followed by a placement game for the winners.

Format for 14 teams: (used Sunday GHHH! 2001)
2 pools of 3 and 2 pools of 4.  3 rounds pool play (w/x-overs for the small pools).
Quarters, semis, finals for upper brackets.  Lower bracket semis, finals and conso.
60-85 minute rounds.

Format for 12 teams:
3 balanced pools of 4 teams.  3 rounds pool play.
1 playoff mini-round for the 2nd place teams in each pool (two 15 minute games with observers/timekeepers).
Semis and finals for upper, lower and middle brackets.
75-85 minute rounds + two 15 minute mini-games.

Format for 10 teams:
2 pools of 5 teams.  5 rounds of pool play with crossovers.
Finals for pool winners.
65-70+ minute rounds

Format for 8 teams:
2 balanced pools of 4 teams.  3 rounds pool play.
Semis, finals for upper and lower brackets.
80-90 minute rounds

There are also some more creative formats we might use.
We'll keep up the GH! tradition of short rounds and no rounds off for any teams.  The exception would be that 6 teams would have 40-minute byes through the playoff mini-round (pre-semis) in the 12-team format.
