OUR DISTRICT GOVERNOR District Governor The Hon. Lion Dr.Tebebe Y. Berhan OIA, IOM was born from the Noble Family on 1st of November 1948. This name has always been a symbol of charity and good will from childhood. He graduated from LVOV State Medical Institute USSR, in 1974 with a Doctor of Medicine and in 1976 with a Diploma in Dermatology - Venereology with honours. He completed his postgraduate in 1978 by obtaining Doctor of Philosophy in Medicine PhD. Lion Dr. Tabebe started his Lionistic carrier in 1988 with Lions Club of Adis Ababa Host. He has been actively involved as District Governor's Representative, Zone Chairman, Region Chairman and District Chairman. He is recipient of many Club, District and International Awards of the Lions International. As a Sight First Chairman since 1995, over 11,000 Cataract Operations have been performed under his personal supervision. |
Lion Dr. Tebebe is a Melvin Jones Fellow, Founder and President of Melvin Jones Fellow Academy in Ethiopia. For his personal achievements and significant contribution to the enrichment of society as a whole, in respectful appreciation of the sacrifice, dedication and leadership, he has been crowned by ABI World Laureate, American Order of Excellence and The Noble order of International Ambassadors' Order of Merit, 2000 as an Outstanding Scientist and Outstanding man of the 20th Century, awards by International Biographical Center, IBC For him, Lionism is a Family affair. He is married to Lion Dr. Yalem Ambaye (MJF), with two lovely daughters Leo Denberwa and Leo Niat |

BRIEF HISTORY OF DISTRICT 411 Lionism in East Africa had a humble beginning. It was first introduced in East Africa by the formation of the Lions Club in Nairobi (Host) on 29th August 1958. This paved the way for the formation of 41 such clubs in all the major towns of Kenya. It spread to Uganda with the formation of the first club in Kampala on 11th October 1959. Tanzania witnessed the birth of Lions Club at Dar-es-salaam on 13th January 1962. Ethiopia joined Lionism in 1966 with the formation of a club at Addis Ababa on the 11th of May. Lionism flourished in all parts of Kenya, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Uganda and together they came to be known as District 411. Lion Dr. S.P.Amin - Member of District 411 Elected as International Director of Lions Club International Lion Dr. S.P. Amin, of Nairobi, Kenya was elected to serve as International Director of the International Association of Lions Clubs at the association's 84th International Convention, held in Indianapolis, Indiana, USA, July 2 - 6, 2001. As Internatioanl Director, Lion Dr. Amin will help govern the world's largest service club organissation, headquartered outside of Chicago, with 1.4 million members in 186 countries and geographical areas. World-wide, Lions aid the blind and visually impaired, support diabetes education and research and sponsor programs for youth. Director Amin, a medical consultant, will also help oversee the Lions' Sight First program, a US$ 143.5 million effort to rid the world of preventable and reversible blindness. this unprecedented initiative joins Lions volunteers, leading blindness prevention experts and blindness organisations in an effort to establish long-term solutions to eye health care problems, train eye care professionals and provide treatment and public education. Lion Dr. S.P.Amin is a member of Lions Club of Nairobi - Central since 1967, Director Amin has held many offices within the association, including club treasurer, zone chairman, deputy district governor, district governor, cabinet treasurer and council chairman. In addition, he served as Sight First sector co-ordinatior, treasurer for Lions Sight First Eye Hospital, Sight First chairman, district convention chairman, district trainer for train-the-trainer workshop and project chairman for district eye camps. In recognition of his service to the association, Director Amin has received numerous awards including the Lion of the Year Award, the 100% Club President Award, the 30 Year Monarch Award, the 100% District Governor Award, several District Governor's Appreciation Awards, the Lion of the District Award, two International President's Certificates of Appreiciation, three International President's Leadership Awards and five International President's Awards. He is also a Melvin Jones Fellow. |
