EASLEY, Aug. 21 -- Mrs. Allie Gane Gilbert, 59, wife of J. E. Gilbert, 14 East Third Avenue died at the home at 10:30 a. m. Tuesday. She had been in declining health for three years and seriously ill for 10 days. Mrs. Gilbert, a daughter of the late Porter and Luvenia Ellenburg Holbrooks, was a native of Oconee County, but had made her home in Easley for the past 28 years. She was a member of the House of Prayer on South Second Street and of the Bible Class of the Sunday School. She was twice married, first to Bob Cobb, who died a number of years ago. Her second husband, J. E. Gilbert, survives with one daughter by the former marriage, Mrs. Garce Cobb Gilbert of Easley; four step-daughters, Mrs. Lassie Williamson, Mrs. Laura Hall, Mrs. Lois Smith and Mrs. Lola Hayes of Easley; an adopted daughter, Rachel Williamson of the home; six step-sons, W. L. of Piedmont, L. N. of Greer, L. A., J. L., H. L., and Lonnie Gilbert of Easley; one sister, Mrs. Celia Cobb of Aiken; and one brother, Charlie Holbrooks of Piedmont. Funeral services will be conducted at the House of Prayer at 3 p. m. Thursday by the Rev. J. H. Williamson, the Rev. W. L. Edgar and the Rev. Leroy Gray. Interment will be in the family plot in Zion Methodist Church Cemetery. The following will be pallbearers: Herman and Curtis Hall, Harold Wardlaw, Aldon, Calvin and Roy Gilbert. The following will compose the escort of honor and will assemble at the House of Prayer at 2:45 Thursday: R. A. Jones, J. C. Collum, Dr. J. Anthony White, Neal Welborn, Harry Gibson, Luther Bates, Truman Johson and Bill Bishop. The body is at the home. |
