EASLEY, Apirl 30 -- James Lawson Gilbert, 43, of 213 S. Second St., died at a Greenville hospital at 11:30 a.m. Monday. He had been in declining health since December 1955 and seriously ill for several days. A son of J. E. Gillbert and the late Rachel Denton Gilbert, he was born in Anderson County. He made his home in Ware Shoals for about two years but the greater part of his life was spent in Easley. He was employed in the Spinning Room of the Brandon Mill, Greenville until his health failed. His church membership was with the Ware Shoals Church of God. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Mary Underwood Gilbert; his father, J. E. Gilbert; his step-mother, Mrs. Emma Bishop Gilbert of Easley; two sons, Airman Roy D. Gilbert, Stationed in England and Aldon L. Gilbert in the U. S. Army at Ft. Jackson; four daughters, Mrs. Hazel Shirley of Easley, Misses Helen, Alma, and Edith Gilbert of the home; five brothers, Lamar Gilbert of Piedmont, Lawrence Gilbert of Greer, Lamon Gilbert, Roy Gilbert and Lonnie Gilbert of Easley; four sisters, Mrs. Lassie Williamson, Mrs. Laura Hall, Mrs. Lois Smith and Mrs. Lola Hayes of Easley; one grandchild; two step-brothers, Bill Bishop of Easley and T. C. Bishop of Greenville; three step-sisters, Mrs, Ruby Albertson of Easley, Mrs Ora Holliday of Liberty and Mrs. Clarcia Nalley of Easley. Funeral services will be conducted at the Easley Church of God on West Main Street at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday by the Rev. Thomas Grassano, the Rev. Earl Roach, the Rev. J. T. Duckett, the Rev. Carl Ellenburg and the Rev. L. C. Heston. Burial will be made in Hillcrest Memorial Park. The body is at the Robinson Funeral Home and will be carried to the home of his father, J. E. Gilbert of 300 East Third Avenue at 2 p.m. Tuesday. |
