Way back in May when we shot our episode of Magnificent Obsessions we were lucky enough to have gotten the privilege of visiting a hidden location. We didn't know where we were going...we had no idea. A few hours before we headed out on the road Jen received a call from our Director Cam informing her of our secret location. In no way was she supossed to reveal where we were going until we were safely headed down the 401 towards Toronto. So there we were all packed into the green truck, our gear snuggly packed into the back as Jen switched on the camera to capture our reaction! I think this is a good place to start how about you?
The Destination: The Gibraltar Point Lighthouse on Toronto Island.
The Music: Crappy T.O Radio
The Entertainment: Watching Mel hang out of the back of the truck window attempting to grab Corrie's bag (that was flapping dangerously in the wind might I add) as Corrie yelled in the background..."Mel if you let go of my bag I'll snap off all of your fingers!"
After loading all of the overnight bags snuggly into the back cab of the truck, and a few discrepincies about how the bungy cords should be attached to KEEP the overnight bags snuggly into the back cab of the truck we were off. Jen who had spent the past hour gloating about how she knew the secret location and we didnt pulled out the camera (that was given to us by the crew to capture the moment) and began the task of attempting to figure out how it worked. Now if you come on the sight often you've come to the realization that the four of us arn't really gifted in the electronics department...if you catch my drift. So there we were parked in the infamous Tim Horton's parking lot passing around this damn camera and trying to figure out how to start recording...and getting really frustrated because we had an extremely short time space to get our butts to Toronto. Jen passed the camera to Nicole who hit some buttons and then passed the camera to Corrie. Corrie found the record button and switched it on handing it back to Jen with a smug look. The little red light was on blinking away at the front of the lense and Jen pulled out her paper and began reading. Just as she got to the part about where we were going the light blinked off. So what did Jen do? What any other person in a stress filled truck, with a bunch of antsy chicks who needed to leave 5 minutes ago would do. She told us all to F*** Off and then hit the button again. And again when she got to the part about where we were headed the fricken light turned off.
Three times this happened, and each time the camera would record for 15 seconds, of what I'm guessing was a lot of Jen swearing, and our anxious faces telling her to hurry and say it faster. Picture it if you could, a big green truck parked in front of a busy Tim Horton's, packed with girls and bags, sweet blonde Jen hanging out the window screaming obscenities as she videotapes the back seat. Yes we were drawing a bit of a croud. Finally....FINALLY after five more minutes of dinking around with this camera we found the REAL record button...and I swear to you at that moment I think I heard angels singing!
The reveal was finally captured on film and we were on our merry way.
Once we arrived in Toronto, we were met by the crew at the entrance to the Island Ferry which was to take us across stank ass Lake Ontario to Toronto Island. We say stank ass cause I'm sure I saw a couple of dead bodies float by the boat. The ferry ride was "Barftacular" and the reeky water didn't help, but when we arrived at the island we couldn't help being excited. After a short break and a few downed icecream sandwiches we sat in an diserted parking lot discussing whether or not the locals where shooting down passing shithawks. We never really did figure out what they were doing cause we were on a deadline and we all jammed into the Cam'Mobile and headed off for the lighthouse.
Doesnt it look like Corrie is giving Nicole a purple nerple?
As we drove down the tiny dirt roads towards our destination, we all had the strange feeling that the Island locals were quietly shunning us for trucking onto the virgin soil with our big ass gas gussling four wheeler as Cam pointed out. We rounded the bend and passed some scowling townies and there it was, the peak of the famously haunted Gibraltar Point Lighthouse looming in the distance. We dropped our tents and bags off behind the structure and jumped back into the Cam'Mobile for the local Town Historian who explained to us the legend of Gibraltar.
By the time we got back to the location the sun was beginning to go down and the imposing energy of the building was beginning to take its toll on the group. One by one we started to become dizzy, spacy and a bit irritable. Heading up the almost 90 degree angle stairs, behind poor Cam, Jon and Don who had to not only lug up the camera but ascend the stairs backwards while filming us, was not fun. Not to mention the fact that the atmosphere became heavier and heavier the further you went. At the very top we then had to crawl up a rickety looking ladder and squeeze our butt's through a hole in the floor that took us up into the light room...all the while trying to look graceful and not hit the camera in the process, might I add. The light room was what you might expect, a small crammed circular shaped room with a big ass lightbulb, but it felt like as we were ascending J.P.'s ghost was heading down...towards Julie...who was down by the car...in the dark...in the woods...with the townies...alone. After about an hour up in the light room, and after Jen, Mel and Jon were almost blown clear off the side of the light house we slowly made our way back down the winding stairs to investigate the grounds.
