The Buried Cross

The book I am reviewing is the Buried Cross by Cherith Baldry. It is about two children called Gwyneth and Hereward who live in Glastonbury in AD1190. One night at the abbey the monks dig up a coffin with two bodies and a cross inside it. It is said to be King Arthur and Queen Guinevere. Everyone in Glastonbury is excited about the find. They hope it will bring back pilgrims and the town will get richer. However the cross and the bones go missing and there are a lot of suspects. Wasim Karab a snake charmer, Rhys Freeman a shopkeeper, Godfrey de Massard a priest from Wells and a mysterious hermit called Ursus.
My favourite part was when Hereward fell into the river while looking for the cross. I thought this part was very exciting. My favourite characters are Abbot Henry because he was funny and the hermit because he was elusive and mysterious. I liked the book because it was adventurous. I think it was worth 8/10 and I think Primary 5 would like to read it. The series is called the Abbey Mysteries. We are reading the second book which is called is called The Silent Man.

I told this story to Liz Weir because she wanted to put stories in a book about the Glens. My daddy told me this story.

The Man in the Hostel

My uncle told me a story about when he went to a hostel where a man used to live. My daddy was there too and another uncle who was called Terrance. They stole apples. The man had a wooden leg. He asked them if they wanted to stay but when they said no he grabbed them and took them into his house. In the middle of the night when they were asleep the man with the wooden leg woke up and got Terrance and killed him.
