Welcome
Hello,

This site was created to share my experience with the Macintosh computer platform.

I own a small offset printing company founded 25 years ago. Like most print shops it has been deeply involved with the ongoing desktop publishing revolution that started with the Mac during the 1980's.

During the last decade I have spent much time researching and learning how to make my Mac's more productive. This includes the first ones purchased in 1989 --a Mac SE and a Mac II. I still have both of them. The SE has been upgraded a couple of times; it is now an SE/30. The same goes for the Mac II which is now a Mac IIfx.

Currently there are six computers, a 1200 dpi GCC laser printer and a Ricoh Aficio color copier/printer on a simple Ethernet 10Base-T network.

This includes a Mac IIci with a 50MHz DiiMO accelerator which functions a an employee time clock.

A Mac IIfx which functions as the business database. Using FileMaker Pro it tracks all sales records, inventory and customers. It produces invoices, purchase orders and estimates. And and keep accounts receivable and payable in order.

A pair of PowerMacs 6100 upgraded to G3 350/150MHz with 1 MB backside cache. These are for personal use and web browsing.

A 7100/80MHz used a backup work station and web browsing.

And the Main work station, a PowerMac 7500 upgraded with XLR8 466/233MHz-1MB G3 upgrade running Adobe Photoshop, PageMaker and Illustrator I believe the 7500 has some of the best upgrade options of the older Macs.

All 7500's have an extra hard disk drive bay that can overheat when a second drive is installed. With this short coming I decided to add a cooling fan to the 7500 when a second drive was installed. My first link is a step by step procedure on installing the fan.

In the printing business removable media is essential. Before the ZIP drive was developed SyQuest ruled the removable market. Since the demise of SyQuest many of the drives have become unreliable. I still have many of these drives in operation and offer some minor repair tips on the second link SyQuest Drives.

More feedback on other topics will follow time permits; feedback is welcome.

Thank you for the visit. --Glen
