Chapter Seven
Ryoko’s run through the Tokyo suburbs led her to Ami’s house. She swallowed hard before approaching the door. During her run she had furiously rubbed her right cheek until it became a red as bright as her hair. She appeared disheveled and breathless with puffy red eyes and crimson face at the door.
The person who answered was not Ami however but Rika.
‘Um who are you?’ Rika enquired
‘Ryoko. Sakamoto Ryoko. I am a friend of Ami’s. Is she here?’
Rika eyed her appearance puzzled then shook her head. ‘I’m afraid she’s out with some girl called Hitomi. She has her phone with her if you want her’
Rika explained then her face softened.
‘You are Yuki’s sister aren’t you?’
Ryoko nodded sniffing and wiped away a stray tear.
‘What’s wrong?’ Rika asked, ‘you look awful. Let me get you something and perhaps I can help’
Ryoko nodded and sniffed again. With her head hung she walked dejected into the Ainoura household.
Ryoko eagerly accepted a mug of hot chocolate from Rika as the two girls sat on the living room sofa. Rika tucked her legs up and smiled warmly.
‘What’s up?’ she asked with a soothing tone to her voice.
‘Well’ Ryoko began. She accepted a tissue to blow her nose ‘Thankyou. Well I don’t know it Ami told you but…’
‘My sister never tells me anything’ Rika interrupted.
‘Oh that is sad’ Ryoko feigned ‘Well, Hitomi, Yochino Misaki and I are going to see a rock band soon. Hitomi was kind enough to buy us tickets but she didn’t get Ami one’
‘They’re out together now. They don’t not get on’ Rika queried.
Ryoko nodded ‘I know. Hitomi told me it was for a “talk”’ she air quoted. ‘Hitomi was quite dreading it as Ami was very angry’
‘Ahhh wakarimashita.’ Rika nodded ‘ She was in such a mood yesterday. So?’
‘Misaki wants me to give my ticket to Ami. Theyre such good friends and Misaki would do anything for Ami’
As Ryoko continued her explanation Rika took all her words in solemnly. ‘So…’ she asked ‘Why do you look so bad?’
‘I just saw Misaki at the arcade. She asked me to give the ticket saying I didn’t figure as much in their little group. But I must be if I have one in the first place’ Ryoko tried to reason and point out the logic.
She took on final gulp of the drink and placed it on the coffee table before taking a deep breath to ready herself. Her story was working, no glaring faults and Rika’s attention was caught.
‘So’ Ryoko sighed ‘She hit me when I said no. Or rather her friend did’ Ryoko burst into tears once again. Rika leaned forwards hugging Ryoko
‘It’s ok. We’ll sort this all out’ she soothed ‘Don’t worry’
Later upon Ami’s return Rika explained that Ryoko had been round to se her, and that she look in a pretty bad shape because of Misaki. Ami did herself no favours. As soon as she had stepped inside her house she turned heel and left muttering ‘Oh for gods sake’.
Rika shrugged thinking Ami had gone to lecture Misaki for her vigilante actions. Ami’s destination however was much different. She headed immediately to see Hitomi.
