Illinois
My Home State

Illinois is a long state from north to south. Spring arrives weeks earlier in the southern part of the state than in the north. Same, of course, for Summer and reverse that for the Fall and Winter seasons.

UP NORTH
Chicago

We have Chicago, of course way up north. "The Windy City" is on Lake Michigan and has all the super city things. Wonderful museums, Lake Shore Drive, Sears Tower, The "El", Navy Pier, The Loop, Buckingham Fountain, and of course The United Center. Name it, you will find it in that "toddlin' town".

CENTRAL ILLINOIS

All of Central Illinois is vast prairies. Meadowbrook Park now offers a glimpse of the former landscape of Illinois - the grasses that once stretched to the horizon - and the many species of wildflowers that by the millions colored the prairies pink, yellow, and white.

And on the Prairie
In Springfield, Lincoln's Tomb

Shortly after Lincoln's death, Henry Ward Beecher, pastor of Plymouth Church, Brooklyn, New York, paid a tribute which speaks prophetically of this famous historic Lincoln site: "Four year ago, O Illinois, we took from your midst an untried man and from among the people. We return him to you a mighty conquerer. Not thine any more, but the nation's; not ours, but the world's. Give him place,
O ye prairies. In the midst of this great continent his dust shall rest, a sacred treasure to myriads who shall pilgrim to that shrine to kindle anew their zeal and patriotism."

DOWN SOUTH

And in the south, called "Little Egypt" lies Cairo, where the Ohio River joins the mighty Mississippi. Southern Illinois has many hills, lakes, and caves.
