Pipe benders. There aren't a lot of choice's for benders. You got the over $2,000 models, way over priced for what I wanted. The $99 ones that are really the bottom of the line. I haven't used a hydraulic version yet, probably good to use, just the price of them is too much. I did make the cheap bender with the jack and dies. Same thing as the $99 bender. Right away it sucked. You have to feed the pipe in a certain way. To me it bends it upside down, which doesn't help visualizing. It can't do close complicated bends. I couldn't put a long pipe in it because the pipe would hit the ground as it bent. Pumping up the jack was to monotonous and tiring. My second bender had an open front, which really helped loading it. But still. The third bender was the charm. Easy horizontal loading. I can load a 20 foot pipe in it. It will do close bends. One of the main things I like about it is Freedom of Movement. I can turn the pipe to any angle I choose and bend it. The frame doesn't interfere with it. (It always bends the pipe up.) It's very easy to bend whatever angle you want. 2nd best feature. It will bend a 1" pipe 90 degrees in under 20 seconds. 3rd best feature. It will do all this with just the touch of a button. I have needed and used all my pipe benders for quite awhile. I build Go carts. Some for sale, or for my son, or me, or to race with on the trails. I have been thru some carts. So mostly I built this bender to end my aggravation with the other benders. (As it turned out I now use my second bender as an anvil, which makes me feel better:) I built mine for $125. AT WORST that means for less than $200 you could build this bender. It will also do 3/4" pipe. The frame is based on about 6 feet of square tube. It uses standard 120 volts. Weighs about 100 lbs or less. It moves around easily. A degree wheel can mounted to it. |
