F.O.R.D.  page 2

Ok by the pictures on the other page you see the damage. Now to the repairs, the big problem I have here in this is the cab is sitting right on the transmission hangers as of now But this is going to change by the time I'm finished this time.  To remove the transmission belly band another problem but I'm going to leave it on to help support the transmission.  to get this off I have to raise the cab about 3 inches. after the band is off then I can unscrew the support arms from the frame and slide the engine fowards and remove the engine from the car.  I will be adding pictures as I get this out.
7/29    I have removed the engine from the truck to find I have someother problems, the U-joint needs replaceing and I have a cracked low speed drum, I will be instaling one of my needle bearing U-joints into the truck and I have a spare low speed drum. So That will work out, I'm glad not that I decided to take the engine out to make sure I have all the parts that broke. In the crank case I found the head of the valve, the shaft broke first it looks like .
I have replaced the valve  using a screw driver to pry up on the spring to remove the pin. I laped the valve to fit the seat, the reamer Ed sent workd fine.  I just finished instaling the piston, that Marvin sent, the rings fit perfectly as per in the rebuilding book.  I took off the connecting rod caps and adjusted all the clearances to .0055 as in the book also. what a crummy shim material they kept breaking I had to go to a local store and find some that would work, funny looks you get from the counter person when you ask for shims that would work in a Model T .  I'll have to remember to get more to have in stock.
Ok Now onto the transmission , Ok I have just finished reassembling the transmission, I found the bushings were all shot most just fell out, So I made some new ones, Pressed them in and honed them to size, what fun, I hope I don't have another trans in this shape for a while. I am so glad I decieded to take this apart now.
See the pictures below . First thing I have to tell oyu all if you don't have to change the clutch spring don't remove that pin! I had too because the spring had a crack in it. Glad I have some transmission parts lying around here. Not many left now but enough to do this one.  I have pictured a few home made tools these work fairly well but some day I'll find the real things.

Never remove this pin if you don't have to
