Good Morning Reality Concert Chronology

2001

-01/03/01  Watertown, NY                                                              Time Warp
other acts: Supertones (?) (not the ska band)
     SETLIST: Pop Song 9 / Due / Don't Ruin a Good Thing / Concerned
Notes: Heh heh.  Well, we were supposed to play as Good Morning Reality with the full line-up but the night before Mike found out he had to go to work in New York City tonight.  Instead of cancelling, Jake and Garrett decided to just have a little fun and screw around so they recruited Scott Monaghan on drums and played under the name "Murph Monthly" for an impromptu show that was pretty awful and sloppy, but then again, that was the point!  "Concerned" included a quiet, slow last verse and chorus until it rocked out again for the ending.  We got cut off early because it was so terrible!  Hmmmmmm... Just like the old days.... :-).  Well, expect the full line up and a much better show on Saturday at the Teen's Place!

-01/06/01  Watertown, NY                                                           Teen's Place
other acts: Road Less Travelled, Enemies of Hypocrisy, Dead End, Northside Stranglers, and Thanx For Trying

SETLIST: Too Personal / Spoken Thoughts / Fallen Away / Is It Gonna Rain Today? / Quiet + Alone / Dreaming / Wake / Par-4 / Hovering / I Give Up
Notes: Whoa...  We, and everyone else, seriously rocked the batter!  This show was billed as a punk show and we were the last band to sign on for the show.  The show was an attempt to start a music scene in Northern New York and to, hopefully, let people know that Upstate New York is not all country music and blues.  There were probably around 100 or more people packed into the small venue which could only hold about 80.  We were very well received by everyone, but since it was a punk show, the heavier, faster material was preferred over the slower songs.  We played our best ever, really fast, tight and heavy.  We debuted our new song "Hovering".  Songs that seemed to be over really well with the crowd were "Too Personal", "Fallen Away", "Par-4", and "I Give Up".  The break in "Spoken Thoughts" also received quite a positive crowd response!  "Quiet + Alone" was brought back to the setlist and was one of the most popular slow songs of the evening.  Everything was great!  Dead End also played with a lot of ferocity and they went over really well with the audience, especially their song "Porn" (which hardcore G.M.R. followers may remember as the song "Alkutezio" back when Josh was in our band, but is now totally reworked and has lyrics and ROCKS!)  Overall, this show was incredible!  The other bands were awesome and the crowd was very into all the bands!  Hopefully there will be more shows to come at the Teen's Place in the future.

-01/26/01  Sackett's Harbor, NY                                               High School Dance
     other acts: Dead End

SET 1: Too Personal / Concerned / Wish It Would Never End
     SET 2: Spoken Thoughts / Par-4 / School
SET 3: The Sweetest Dilemma / This Time Next Year / I Give Up
Notes: Dead End got us a show with them at a Sackett's Harbor High School Dance.  Dead End kicked ass, they've gotten really damn good, everyone needs to check them out at least once in their life!  Jake and Garrrr were sick for this show and Bobby was in California for this show but it all went really well except our cover of "School" by Nirvana, but our debut of the Movielife's "This Time Next Year" was great!  "Wish It Would Never End" made it's full band debut and was pretty damned cool, lots of people slow dancing.  The show ended on a high note with "I Give Up."  Jake and Garrrr's voices were pretty thrashed by the end due to their flus but it was a great show regardless!!  We and Dead End were very well received by the high school crowd.

-03/24/01  Watertown, NY                                                      The Ultimate Goal
     other acts: none

SETLIST: Long Way Down / Par 4 / Paint It Black / Spoken Thoughts / This Time Next Year / Sweetest Dilemma / You've Got a Friend In Pennsylvania / Is It Gonna Rain Today? / Hovering / I Give Up / Say It Ain't So / My Hero / Too Personal
Notes: Another great show, first one since recording the album.  This show was a benefit for the Children's Miracle Network and was sponsored by the Border.  Action packed versions of all songs.  We debuted our cover of New Found Glory's "You've Got a Friend In Pennsylvania" and our other covers sounded really good.  "Say It Ain't So" featured some guest vocals from some friends in attendance, "My Hero" was sung by Jake and sounded really great, "Paint It Black" and "Spoken Thoughts" were played back to back and blended together and both were really great!  "Too Personal" was a very energetic end to a very energetic show and we sold some CDs too and people are starting to really respond to the material.  Things are really shaping up.

-04/26/01  Auburn, NY                                                                  Spirit's
other acts: If Hope Dies, Nothing to Show, Atoxia, Smokestack, The Guts, Plaisteds, Gravely Mistaken, Beyond Recognition, Between Walls, more?

     SETLIST: Hovering / Par-4 / The Sweetest Dilemma / I Give Up
Notes: Great show, tons of local acts, STP house benefit show.  Bobby couldn't make it to the show but Jake, Mike and Garrrr still rocked the house.  Minor mishap in "Par-4", but besides that it was great.  Also strange to hear people singing along to "Par-4".  But yeah, the show was fun and it rocked.  If Hope Dies is great, so are Between Walls, everyone should check them out as well as the other bands on the list.

-04/28/01  Mannsville, NY                                                        Kirby's Garage
other acts: The Attachments, Dead End, Thanx For Trying, CIS, and Comatose

SETLIST: Intro / Hovering / My Name Is Jonas / You've Got a Friend In Pennsylvania / Perfect Like This / The Sweetest Dilemma / Par-4 / Spoken Thoughts / I Give Up
Notes: Another great show, just a few days after the Auburn show.  Bobby played at this show and we debuted his new song "Perfect Like This" which came out great.  We played a cover of Weezer's "My Name Is Jonas" and during "Spoken Thoughts", Bob Dunleavy and Josh Hagen of Dead End sang guest vocals as well as guest vocals from Scott Monaghan near the end of the song.  The show rocked and we started trying a new "Intro" before "Hovering" to start off the shows, which was pretty cool.  A few tuning problems plagued this show, but overall it was great.  Everyone should also check out the other bands, especially Dead End.  The Attachments were great as well, energetic set of fun covers led by the legendary Ira Marcks.

-06/09/01  Evans Mills, NY                                Practice / Warm Up show at Dunleavy's
     other acts: Dead End

SONGS PRACTICED (no particular order): Intro (2x) / Hovering (2x) / The Sweetest Dilemma / Par-4 / I Give Up / Concerned / Too Personal / Overlap / Is It Gonna Rain Today? / Fallen Away / The Wrecking Ball (2x) / Filk / Last Saturday / You've Got a Friend In Pennsylvania / My Name Is Jonas / This Time Next Year / Perfect Like This / Nothing Lasts Forever / Spoken Thoughts (2x) / Almost There (OK) / Rut / My Hero (Jam) / Long Way Down / probably more...a few little jams here and there
Notes: Our show with Dead End and Thanx For Trying was cancelled so we did an impromptu practice / warm up show with Dead End at the Dunleavys' garage sale.  Dead End practiced first and ran through their songs and a cover of Staind's "Outside" and Nirvana's "Lithium" and their new song "Long Road Home".  We then rocked out and practiced our new song "The Wrecking Ball" a couple of times and pulled out some older songs from "nothing lasts forever*" and a bunch of covers both new and old and we practiced Bob's new one "Nothing Lasts Forever" which is a sequel of sorts to "Looking at Life".  We also practiced "Spoken Thoughts" with Rob Phillips on third guitar, Pat Dunleavy on second drums and Josh Hagen and Rob Dunleavy on vocals, it's sure to be a killer at upcoming shows.

-06/24/01  Watertown, NY                                                           Eagle's Club
other acts: Moments Without and Dead End

SETLIST: Intro / Hovering / Par-4 / The Sweetest Dilemma / I Give Up / Perfect Like This / My Hero (Jam) / Is It Gonna Rain Today? / The Wrecking Ball
Notes: A show in Watertown at the Eagle's Club with Dead End and Moments Without from Viriginia.  Our set was going great until tuning problems made us stop "The Sweetest Dilemma" and tune and then play it again.  Jake's guitar had many problems throughout the show and eventually just died after "Perfect Like This" which prompted Mike, Bob and Garrrr to play the "My Hero" jam and "Is It Going to Rain Today?" without Jake to keep the show going.  The show ended with a killer, first time ever played, "The Wrecking Ball" which got a great response as did "I Give Up" with Jake playing solos on the floor and "Perfect Like This" which had the slowest middle section it's ever had.

-07/13/01  Watertown, NY                                                           Eagle's Club
other acts: Between Walls and Dead End

SETLIST: Intro / I Give Up / Par-4 / The Sweetest Dilemma / Hovering / Spoken Thoughts / Perfect Like This / The Wrecking Ball
Notes: Bob's last show for the year, he leaves for Egypt on the 21st.  Awesome show by all bands involved.  All the bands were very energetic and we had a great time and all the songs sounded awesome.  Bob's strings kept breaking so he had to use Rob Phillips of Dead End's guitar to finish out the show.  We played a new slower intro to the show, not the one that usually preceeds "Hovering".  We actually got paid and made some money selling EPs!  Dead End had their CDs for sale along with some cool new Dead End shirts!  "The Wrecking Ball" and "Perfect Like This" were very good and cool to play and we all got into the music a lot!  Last time "Perfect Like This" will be played until 2002 unfortunately...  All in all, a great show to end Bob's year with us.  Hopefully the summer will still hold some shows for the remaining three members as we already have a new song being written!

-08/17/01  Theresa, NY                                                                 Ice Rink
other acts: Fake ID, Between Walls, Dead End, 3 Speed Side Arm, and Thanx For Trying

SETLIST: Par-4 / The Sweetest Dilemma / In the Woods / Hovering / I Give Up / The Wrecking Ball / Two Hours Ago
Notes: Found the setlist so it should be accurate now.  First show as a three-piece since Bob left for Egypt.  This show was a lot of fun, we got to play with a lot of great local bands, including the brand new 3 Speed Side Arm who are really great, so check them out!  We also got to play with a great band from Boston called Fake ID.  We debuted our two new songs, "In the Woods" and "Two Hours Ago".  Also, great versions of "Par-4", "I Give Up" and "The Wrecking Ball" were played.  Once again we were plagued by tuning troubles but we got through them and rocked out for everyone!

-09/21/01  Ithaca, NY                                    Cornell University at the New Jam Hall
other acts: If Hope Dies, Between Walls, American Hot Wax, and After the Fashion

SETLIST: Par-4 / Two Hours Ago / The Sweetest Dilemma / In the Woods / The Wrecking Ball
Notes: Incredible show by all involved!  Brand New was a no show, I heard because their van broke down.  Even though Brand New didn't play, If Hope Dies played instead and they're awesome!!  If these guys don't get signed then there's no hope for bands anymore, they're extremely talented and, well, they rock!!  Our set came and went without any errors or tuning problems, just 5 rocking songs in a row.  The crowd really liked the new material and we sold a bunch of copies of "The Wrecking Ball" EP.  Many in attendance describe us as Math Rock!?  We also went back to the CCC Studio for the weekend and recorded the new tracks.  Between Walls are really great guys, not only do they rock and are really talented musicians (I swear Luke must go through a set of strings a night!), but they're really nice guys and they helped us out with getting this gig, recording in the studio and giving us a place to stay for the weekend.  Definitely check out the upcoming If Hope Dies / Between Walls tour!

-11/30/01  Boston, MA                                  U-Mass - Mass. Art (Do It Till You Drop)
other acts: If Hope Dies, Between Walls, Monster Truck Riot, Riverton

SETLIST: Stressed Spelled Backwards For Relief / In the Woods / Two Hours Ago / The Sweetest Dilemma
Notes: First out of state show.  It was a reealllly long drive.  The show itself was OK.  A little disappointing that only about 10 people showed up after such a long ride but it was great to finally be able to play out of state and experience life in other places.  The show was at an Art School and there were all sorts of demonstrations and exhibits going on such as cooking and a play.  Between Walls and If Hope Dies did tag sets where after each song they tagged each other in and their band played a song.  Our set was alright, we debuted our new song.  We screwed up on some songs because of bad acoustics but overall it was a fun time had by all.

-12/01/01  Oneonta, NY                                                                     YMCA
other acts: Joystick Generation, The Brothers Late, All City and Sydney.

SETLIST: Intro / Stressed Spelled Backwards For Relief / In the Woods / Two Hours Ago / The Sweetest Dilemma / The Wrecking Ball
Notes: This show was held at the YMCA and was a benefit show for homeless children.  Many thanks go out to Erik Cannon (sorry if I spelled that wrong).  This show went much better than last nights, although we were all tired as hell after a 6 hour drive which somehow took us 9 hours and virtually no sleep.  We were much more into the show tonight and the crowd was much more receptive and enthusiastic.  Everything sounded great, only a few minor errors in "Two Hours Ago" which weren't too noticeable.  The new stuff seems to be going over well with the crowd.  The other bands were great too, Joystick Generation were good and fun, the band after us kicked ass too.  The Brothers Late were awesome, very energenic and tight and they had a great stage presence, real kick ass sound, check out their website in the links section.  I missed the next band(s) because I had to get going, another 2 hour drive.  Overall, very cool, everyone should definitely check out these bands.

-12/10/01  Watertown, NY                                            Jefferson Community College
other acts: a couple other guys doing final project performances.

SETLIST: In the Woods / Two Hours Ago
Notes: This performance was for Mike's final project in the History of Rock and Roll class.  We played to his class and a bunch of our friends who came to catch the performance.  "In the Woods" was fun and "Two Hours Ago" completely rocked!  Unfortuneatly the only mic we had wouldn't work so Jake tried to sing as loud as he could to compensate.
