Chapter 47

Shayna lay in bed and cried over Nick that night.  She didn’t bother to call Bill after listening to his message.  When she saw the blinking light on the answering machine she had hoped it was Nick.  Seeing him with someone else was so hard.  Harder than she ever thought it would be.  Maybe she had made a mistake; maybe they could make it work.  Tonight was awful and she never wanted to see him with his arms around someone else ever again.  She was going to have to get used to seeing him with all kinds of women once their tour started.  He would be a single guy and she knew he was going to live it up.  She wanted to drive over to his house, run in his arms and make love to him all night.  She fought it because she knew he wasn’t alone.  He was with her and the last thing he was doing was thinking about her.  The thought made her cry all over again until she fell asleep.

She woke up the next morning, eyes swollen.  She rolled over and looked at the clock to see it was 10:00.  She never slept that late but the crying must have exhausted her.  She walked to the kitchen and started to make breakfast, once the food had started she went to the bathroom and brushed her teeth and washed her face.  She looked at herself in the mirror and shook her head.  What the hell was she going through?  Why was this so hard for her to get over?  She went back into the kitchen and finished cooking her breakfast.  Once she ate, she jumped in the shower and afterwards put on her football jersey and got ready for a day of football.  Just as the game was about to start there was a knock at the door. She frowned and walked over wondering who it could be. She opened the door to see Craig looking at her with an unsure smile on her face,
“Hey.”  She smiled and stepped to the side,
“Hi, come on in.”  He walked in with a bag from Subway,
“I brought food, thought I might crash your football party.”  She laughed,
“Great, have a seat.  I’ll get some plates.  What do you want to drink?”  He looked over at her,
“Anything is fine.”  He smiled as he watched her move around the kitchen with her football jersey; he knew that was one that Nick had bought her and wondered if she even realized it.
They sat in front of the TV, only commenting on the game.  Once halftime started he turned to her,
“I’m sorry about last night.  He wasn’t supposed to be there but Lexi wanted to go out.”  She nodded and her eyes began to water just at the mention of last night,
“Lexi?  That’s her name? Pretty.”  He sighed,
“I’m sorry…he didn't mean to make you upset either.”  The tears escaped her eyes,
“That obvious huh?”  He slid next to her and held her as she cried,
“Its ok Shay.  It will get better.”  She wiped her eyes and lay on his chest as she cried and cried,
“When?  I have a boyfriend and it’s still hard.  Maybe I shouldn’t be dating if this is getting to me like this.”  Her eyes closed as he rubbed her back,
“I don’t know what to tell you?” She looked up at him,
“So, when did he meet her?”  He sighed and broke eye contact,
“Shayna, this won’t make you feel better.”  She wiped her eyes,
“Humor me ok?”  He nodded,
“A couple of months ago in LA.”  She frowned,
“He’s known her that long?  So, he flew her out to visit him?”  He shook his head,
“That doesn’t mean anything.  Nick flying her out here is like us sending someone a $49 Greyhound ticket.”  She shook her head and let out a breath,
“Yeah but he thought of her and wanted to spend time with her.  What’s wrong with me?  I don’t even know what I want anymore.”  He placed his hand under her chin and made her look at him,
“There is nothing wrong with you.  You’re going through a rough time right now, that’s all.”  She smiled and leaned forward and kissed him lightly on the lips.  He fought her at first but she insisted and he gave in and allowed her tongue in his mouth.  His hands ran through her hair and her hands ran under his shirt.  He pushed her back gently and shook his head,
“No, we can’t.  Nick is my friend and I can’t do this.  Look, you’re both confused.  He thinks about you just like you are sitting here thinking of him.  I told Nick and I’m telling you, figure out what you want.  Nick isn’t doing anything that you aren’t doing.  You’ve moved on too.”  He stood up, once he made it to the door he turned and looked at her,
“No hard feelings right?” She looked up at him briefly and nodded,
“No, and I’m sorry, I don’t know why I-“ He laughed lightly,
“I’m flattered…trust me.  I’ll talk to you later.” She lay on the couch and thought about what he said.  Nick was just as confused as she was.  She sighed, but I’m sure he’s not messing around with any of my friends, she thought as she shook her head.
