Chapter 48

He rolled over and saw her sleeping.  The sheets were down to her waist and her naked upper body was exposed.  Her hair was in her face and her hand lay on her stomach.  He placed his hand over hers and kissed her gently on the corner of her mouth.  Her mouth twitched and he kissed her again a little harder.  She groaned and her eyes opened.  She turned her head and covered her face.  He laughed at her shyness,
“I’ve seen you first thing in the morning before.” She giggled and jumped up and ran into the bathroom.  He smiled and lay back and his thoughts went to Shayna.  He sighed and looked up at the ceiling.  This was crazy; thinking of her all the time but he couldn’t help it.  His thoughts were interrupted as his cell phone rang,
“Hello?”  There was silence and he figured it was another fan or the wrong number,
“Hello?”
“Hi…it’s Shayna.”  He sat up and ran his hand through his hair as he looked over towards the bathroom,
“Um, hi.”  He wasn’t sure what to say and hoped since she called she would take the lead,
“I…can we meet and talk sometime?  I mean I know you have a guest but later or whenever.”  He released a breath he didn’t know he was holding,
“Um sure…yeah.”  He smiled as Lexi walked back into the room and climbed back into bed,
“I’ll call you when I can make it.”  He heard her sigh,
“Ok.”  He hung up the phone and looked over at her,
“I’m starving…let’s get dressed I know this place that has home cooking.  Its really good.”

All day his mind was on Shayna and what she wanted to talk about.  So many times he almost pulled out his cell phone and called her but he knew that would be wrong with Lexi there.  He walked in the kitchen and wrapped his arms around her from behind while she was packing the picnic basket,
“What did you pack baby?”  She laid her head on his shoulder and covered his hands with hers,
“A little of everything.”  She turned around and wrapped her arms around her neck,
“I’ve had fun.  Thanks for bringing me out.”  He smiled,
“I had fun too.  I’m glad you came.”  He leaned down and kissed her.  She pulled away and laughed as he pouted,
“Come on, I can’t wait to get on the boat.”  He waited by the door as she got everything together and as she walked by he took the basket from her hand and took her other hand in his as they walked down to the dock.  He looked over at her as she pulled off her T-shirt and shorts and wondered why he wasn’t giving himself a chance with her.  He turned off the engine and stood there and watched her as she lay out in her red bikini.  He shook his head as his body began to respond and he walked over and sat next to her,
“Hey! You’re blocking my sun!”  He laughed,
“I’m sorry.”  She smiled as he stood up and sat beside her head,
“Thank you…so kind.”  Her eyes closed as his fingers traced over her face and she sighed; his fingers continued down and she shivered as he touched her neck.  He sat there looking out at the water as his fingers traced over her body.  His peaceful thoughts were interrupted when she sat up with a serious look on her face,
“The other night when we met up with your friends was that girl Shayna?”  He looked at her speechless, he thought she was clueless about the whole thing, at least he thought she was,
“Sorry…I shouldn’t have said anything.”  He shook his head and noticed she seemed upset,
“No, its ok…I just didn't know you knew.  I mean, yeah. The one with the long hair was Shayna, yeah.  I never would have took you if I had known she was going to be there.” He watched her nod her head almost as if in a trance,
“So is she who you were thinking of that night when we were in bed and you said I love you while holding me?”  His eyes grew wide and she smiled slightly at him before looking over her shoulder at the water.  He ran his hand over his face; he never realized he had said that and he wasn’t sure what to say to her,
“Lexi, I don’t remember saying that.”  She looked back at him and he shook his head,
“I mean, I’m not saying you’re lying I just don’t remember…I don’t know what to say.”  She smiled and shrugged,
“You were wasted…I knew you weren’t talking to me.”  He sighed,
“I really like you Lexi.  I have fun every time we hang out.  I mean you’re really cool-“ She nodded and stood up,
“I understand Nick. Don’t worry.”  He stood up and held onto the rail so she couldn’t go anywhere.  He kissed her on her shoulder,
“Lexi you’re a really cool girl and any guy would be lucky to have you.” She turned around slowly and looked up at him,
“Yeah I’ve heard that before.  Always the girl every guy wants IF ONLY he didn't already have a girlfriend.”  She shook her head and he placed his hands on her waist and leaned into her,
“I don’t have a girlfriend…if you’ll give me a chance.”  She slowly raised her head and looked at him to see if he were serious,
“What?”  He didn't know where it was coming from but she was a cool girl and he knew he needed to get over Shayna.  She had moved on with someone else why shouldn’t he?
“I want us to try…you know.”  She nodded her head and smiled as he leaned down and kissed her softly.
