Gloria's restraunt was my favourite hangout during  my youth. It is very much typical of neighbourhood restraunts of the fifties and sixties. This was the real "happy days" establishment and a landmark, where I grew up in Sudbury, Ontario. It has been replaced by a modern strip-mall and the surrounding landscape has filled up with buildings and new inhabitants, but the atmosphere lives on. Thanks to the enterpreneurial spirit of the Michel family, Glorias has survived since 1952 ( now a part of the strip mall ) in the same location. The prices have changed, slightly, but the menu is nearly the same and the friendly fast service lives on. It's still a great meeting place for friends and neighbours.

Generations
24 1/2" X 40 1/2"
Acrylic painting
$7,000
Limited edition prints  on acid-free paper are available for
$150. ea.
Like father, like son is the theme here; if your dad was a specific  car company man, chances are, you will be too.   I hunted the entire city of Sudbury looking for two houses that had adjacent garages and looked like they could be from any town. I knew the setting I wanted for this painting and these houses on Homewood street really fit the bill. Anyone who has a family and is an old car buff will tell you that it's easy to get the next generation hooked. In this illustrated version, you'll see grandad greeting grandson with the 69 classic  he has just brought home for grandad's approval. Grandad has a 1924 coupe  nicely restored in his garage. Dad next door is washing (what else?) his 1957 two door hard top,  while the dealer's sales follow-up salesman pulls up in a 1996 sports car. Mom points out the new purchase to the youngest family member, as younger brother abandons his basketball in favour of a look at the 69 classic.

This gorilla is done from a photo I was impressed with when I came accross it in a book I bought about gorillas.
I became aware of the fact that gorillas are identified in the wild by the unique nose pattern that each one posseses. I find it impossible to read the emotion on a gorilla's face. They are so fearsome looking yet when understood, they can be as tender as a mom to a newborn. I find the eyes most piercing and in this painting, they follow you accross a room. If you look real close, you'll see your reflection in his eyes as you come "face to face"
