POEMS FOR DEBBIE AND CHERYLE
DEBBIE
CHERYLE
You took the time to care for us
You were our second mum
The role was handed to you
And it can't have been much fun

The times that mum was not around
You cared for us for free
I realise now that I'm a mum
How hard that must have been

Our childhood was a stressful one
As many others are
But somehow you got through it
And it made you what you are

You turned into a woman
And soon you left our home
You went away to marry
So your work with us was done

You had the joy of giving birth
Three children were born to you
You brought them up as best you can
That's all that you can do

It's good to see the love you share
That once was shared with us
To be their friend not just their mum
You do it without a fuss

So I thank you sis for helping me
When I needed  just a friend
Not judging me for what I did
My problems you helped mend

I wrote these lines to show you
Of how much you mean to me
For being a part of my life
And my thanks I give to thee
It started many years ago
When we were only young
The bond was made,
Through the times we played
I knew we'd have some fun

We got on like a house on fire
And shared the same bedroom
We knew not of the things in life
That would be coming soon

I have one thought that comes to me
Of A time so long ago
One that stands out in my mind
I thought you'd like to know

A kitchen set was given to us
With lots of pots and pans
We kept it in our bedroom
As we didn't have a plan

We sat up in our room that night
To plot what we could do
We raced down to the kitchen
And gathered heaps of food

We sat upon our mattresses
And brought out all our pots
We filled them with the food we had
And scoffed down all the lot

We grew as friends as sisters do
She shared her time and thoughts
She showed me trust, and showed me joy
And there were times we fought

She stood out from the rest of us
Her hair as bright as light
And when it came to give her love
She gave with all her might

I wish we could be close again
As we now live miles apart
And share the joys we shared in life
That now live in my heart

They are all but a memory now
That I will always cherish
Locked in my thoughts, and in my past
But they will never perish
