SCORESBY DIVISION
The navigation and seamanship division of  Graham Sea Training was named the Scoresby Division imortalising one of the greatest nautical families of all time, members wore a white compass on the arm of their blazer.

I am not sure which one is imortalised from either

Captain William Scoresby Senior 1760 - 1829 or
Captain William Scoresby Junior 1790 - 1857

.Both born in Whitby

Scoresby senior invented the crows nest in 1870.

Scoresby junior developed the first admiralty compass needle.

Both were whaling skippers who spent many years at sea and carried out a lot of .nautical research.

Both retired into the cloth.
If you are an ex member of Scoresby Division let me know and you can join the list here.
