Some of the extortionist monkeys on the Emeishan pilgrim trail. Repeated feeding by Chinese tourists have produced a breed of very aggressive simian beggars. |
Graydon climbed to the top of the sacred pilgrimage mountain of Emeishan, while Joanne took the bus and cable car up to join him. After a night on the mountain, we stopped by the Big Buddha of Leshan to pay our respects, then headed for Chengdu. |

While waiting for Graydon, Joanne made friends with a bunch of kids at the summit. Graydon poses with them and with his trusty monkey-bashing (and later Tibetan-kid-bashing) stick. |
The barbeque crew who assuaged our hunger near the summit. |
The Big Buddha (Dafosi) of Leshan, 20 km from Emeishan. He's big (biggest in the world after the Taleban blew up the Bamian Buddhas) but not enormously attractive. |
