November-December: The end of the bike trip |
Mt. Everest, the highest mountain on earth, looming large over Rongphuk Monastery, the world's highest monastery. A view that was enough recompense for the effort Graydon put in cycling to Rongphuk. |
Finally, months after finishing the trip, Graydon has gotten around to digitizing a few slides. These are from the ride from Lhasa to Kathmandu and then on to Darjeeling, India. Sorry about the poor quality of some of the images: it's the first time Graydon's scanned slides. |

Graydon with his faithful tent and bike at Rongphuk Monastery, with Everest behind. |
A flock of bharal, or blue sheep that Graydon pursued around the hillsides, trying to get a picture of a ram silhouetted against Everest. This is the best effort he got, with Everest's summit looming behind the sheep. |
Shisha Pangma, the highest mountain entirely within Tibet (8012 m) and the 14th highest in the world, dominates the skyline on the climb over the last pass separating Graydon from the warm lowlands of Nepal. |

Graydon looking Viking atop the Yarle Shang La, the second pass of the double pass leading over the Himalayan watershed from Tibet to the Nepal lowlands. Behind him is an Italian tourist holding aloft a yak skull and horns, and behind that is Cho Oyu, the 6th highest mountain on earth. |
Graydon's faithful mascot relaxing in Darjeeling, after 11,586 kilometres of cycling, with the snow-capped peak of Kanchenjunga (8598 m), the highest mountain on earth, behind. It was a wonderful trip, and this was the end of it. Pooh had a great time, as did Tigger (Joanne's mascot) even if Tigger didn't quite make it to Darjeeling. |
