The smoke and dust from the collapse of the World Trade Center Towers had not yet settled before the American people started asking questions:
How could this have happened without our government having any warning? Why didn't the FBI and the CIA have some HINT that this might be coming? To understand the answers to those, and similar, questions, it is necessary to look backward many years in our history.
In the period between 1948 and 1952, the House Committee On Unamerican Activities (HCUA, later changed to House Internal Security Committee) and the Senate Internal Security Subcommittee (SISS) had identified and exposed FOUR communist cells working within the U.S. government. They had exposed Alger Hiss, Owen Lattimore, Harry Dexter White, Lauchlin Currie, and a host of other communists holding positions of extreme importance in high government offices. They had shown that, of the eighteen U.S. government officials directly responsible for the planning and execution of the entry of the United States into the United Nations, ALL BUT ONE were identified in sworn testimony as secret members of the Communist Party. They also had positive proof that there were, at that time, TWO, and possibly FIVE, OTHER communist cells working within our government. NONE of these have EVER been exposed!!!
Very shortly after his election as President, Dwight Eisenhower issued two Executive Orders to prevent ANY government employee giving testimony to the HCUA or the SISS. He also appointed Earl Warren as Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. In the next few years, Warren voted in favor of the communists 67 times out of a total of 70 cases. Under Warren, the Supreme Court invalidated the sedition laws of 42 states. On March 5, 1954, Eisenhower in a letter to his cabinet issued an order that department heads were to "shield" executive department employees from Congressional investigations into their loyalty, actions and backgrounds. December 29, 1954, Dwight closed the final "loophole" through which Congressional committees could check on executive employees by placing all employee files "off limits" to the Congress by "Presidential Order."
It was clear to the Communist bosses in Moscow that these investigative activities were seriously hurting their work in the U.S. In the early 1960s, an order went out from Moscow to all Communists and communist sympathizers in the United States, in government, in the mass media, in education, etc., that every effort must be made to hamper, disrupt and eventually end the work of ALL internal security operations in this country. And what were the results? Time and space do not permit full details, but it IS possible to give you the following dreary history.
Through constant attacks in the media, and repetitive lawsuits brought by the National Lawyer's Guild (officially designated as a Communist Front) and the ACLU, and through the efforts of fools, or worse in Congress, first the House Internal Security Committee was abolished. Next, they went after and destroyed the Senate Internal Security Subcommittee, largely through the efforts of Senator Ted Kennedy.
Now, on a roll, they went after the security investigative work of the FBI. By 1975, through the efforts of Attorney General Edward Levy (a former member of the National Lawyers Guild) new rules were established for FBI investigations of subversives and terrorists, to wit: no-one could be INVESTIGATED unless there was ALREADY proof that they were contemplating a criminal act, investigation could not take place unless the crime was to be committed in THE NEXT 48 HOURS, nor could they use informants in subversive groups if the informant participated in the acts themselves. Between 1973 and 1979, the number of investigations of internal subversion and terrorism dropped from over 21,000 to only 147 a reduction of over 99%!!!
Next, the CIA was weakened by administrative policies established at the highest levels of government. First the level of funding was reduced by 40% and then over 900 of the most experienced counter-intelligence officers were fired.
The police departments in major cities all over the U.S. also had intelligence gathering departments. Through repetitive law suits brought by the National Lawyer's Guild and the ACLU, one police department after another was forced to abolish such intelligence sections AND TO DESTROY INFORMATION ALREADY GATHERED! Virtually every such police operation ceased to exist.
To REVIEW: the Congressional Internal Security Committees of both the House and the Senate were eliminated; the Internal Security Division of the Justice Department was eliminated; the Subversive Activities Control Board was canceled through removal of funding; the Attorney General's List of Subversive Organizations is no longer published or even maintained; the counter- intelligence units of the armed forces were SEVERELY limited; the FBI was forced to reduce its investigation of subversion by over 90%; state and municipal police departments have all but abandoned their intelligence units; and the CIA was strongly handicapped as a defender of U.S. interests. By the early 1980s, we were left NAKED before, not only the Communists, but also every other terrorist group of whatever persuasion!
And NOW the American people ask: "How could this have happened without
our government having any warning?" The answer should be ABUNDANTLY
CLEAR to any rational person!
