As I continue to try and comprehend the scope of the Sept. 11th attack, and especially to comprehend the losses of firefighters (which hits close to home since I was one many years ago), it occurred to me that anything that could be said in memoriam has already been said. From the cliches, to the honest good wishes & prayers offered, its all been said before. To once again say here on this page that my thoughts & prayers are with all of the attack victims, and especially the cops & firefighters, might sound trite. But its true. Very true. Now that I think about it, maybe condolences can't be said enough. (10/11/01)
A multimedia WTC Tribute Another WTC tribute
I've always had an interest in this topic. I spent 5 years as a volunteer firefighter/EMT. Later, I established my local Community Watch program, and directed it for two years. I also founded a Community Watch Coordinator's Association where program leaders county-wide could meet to share ideas. I was instrumental in bringing cell phone use to my program, as well as neighboring ones. Geez, this is starting to sound like a resume. But the point is that we should all do our part to make our little corner of the world a little better, and I think I've done my part, for awhile at least.
THE FIREFIGHTING YEARS: Every picture tells a story--Just click on them!
Of the two ambulances my station had, this was my favorite. It had an awesome stereo. A heavy metal tape was all we needed to drown out that annoying siren on the way to a call. Click on the picture for more pictures of fire apparatus from around the East coast.
That's me on the left, repairing the hole made by my associates. As usual, I got most of the less glamourous tasks because I never complained. Click on the picture to see more photos of this particular incident and read the story behind it.

Santa sure looks handsome, eh?  Not all fire service is gloom & doom. This was a really enjoyable thing to do. Click on picture for a story.

SEX OFFENDER REGISTRIES
If you care about your kids and who they are interacting with, you will check out these sites. If you don't see one that applies to your area, I suggest calling your local prosecutor's office or law enforcement agency to find out if some of your community's most dangerous people are on the web. My other suggestion would to do your own web search with the specific words "sex offender registry."
Delaware's Registered Sex Offenders

Clicking on this brings you to a site that has links to sex offender registries of most states.
Clicking on this takes you to an excellent page with parole release information for some areas, as well as a link to the national sex offender database.
