The yurt villages are located in three different locations within the Biosphere Territory Issyk Kul: the North side of the lake Issyk Kul, South coast of lake Issyk Kul, and on the lake Son Kul of the Tchui valley in the beautiful gorge of Issyk Ata. Tourists can stay for 4-5 days in each village, and move along until they visit all of the villages. The landscapes of each village differs from one to another by their Eco-systems, ranging from the sea-level to sub-alpine, including such terrain as plains-steppe, coastal line of Issuk Kul, mountain forests, bad-lands (or deserts), snow-capped picks, and Tian Shan glaciers.

During the entire stay, tourists will be learning of local culture and history of nomads through living in traditional Kyrgyz yurts, eating and drinking ethnic cuisine, and encountering local people from GreenTour Kyrgyzstan’s staff to the host families catering to their guests needs in the yurts villages.

Local horses will never make you feel uncomfortable while you are riding them, as they are friendly and well bred. Even beginners can ride Kyrgyz horses without any fear. You can befriend them very quickly and as a reward you will get wonderful rides and contact with them. Besides horses, you will see camels and yaks.

Tian Shan Mountains have plenty of educational experience for youngsters interested in plants and animals. While living in the yurts, that are so close to the land and Nature, children and adults will encounter mountain animals, birds, interesting medicinal herbs and plants every minute of the day.

Accomodation in yurts

The yurt is shaped to symbolise the eternity, and is made of felt, which prevents the temperature from fluctuating drastically inside the yurt. The design of the yurt does not require any nails as it is made of wood and leather, and it can be put together in virtually no time. Living in the yurt will be pleasant as all the basic necessities are taken care of: the yurts have electricity supplied by a mini power unit, and water is heated for showers. The toilets and showers are comfortable and will meet some of the best standards.

Generally, the programme for each of the tourist groups would look as follows:

Our interpreters and guides will take you care of the quests from arrival at the airport Manas, Bishkek and till the guests’ departure from Manas, Bishkek.

First, our minibuses take each guest or a group of guests to a guest house near Lake Issyk Kul straight from the airport ( about 3-4) hour drive where. It is a good place to relax, have a meal, and take a nap and even watch the beautiful Issyk Kul sunset.

Afterwards, guests proceed to our yurts villages that are located in the most exotic and colourful places of Tian Shan range - a few hours drive by bus.

After several days spent at one village guests can switch to another village with a different landscape and unique feel. There is a local host family in each of the yurt villages that is there to take care of the guests.

Every day spent riding a horse and walking in the mountains will energise you for the rest of the year. And beautiful local souvenirs made by craftsmen will be a reminder and beckoning of our warm country.
