My story
It all started back when I first got in the band 'Wyrmwood'. The bass player/singer and lead guitar player, they are
also brothers, mentioned doing cover songs. Me, an avid Metallica fan at the time and Mr. James Hetfield wanna-be, wanted to play some old Metallica like 'Creeping Death' and 'Seek and Destroy'. They didn't want any part of it and mentioned 'South of Heaven' by Slayer and 'Lucrecia'
by Megadeth. With help from the TAB, I learned how to play Mustaine's part. (Which was very difficult) That song rocked so much when we played it that I got addicted to it. Looking through my brother's old '80s tape collection, I came across with a copy of Rust in Peace. (If he reads this, he
will probably get mad. I promise that I haven't touched them... lately...) I listened to it over and over again. My first favorites were: Hangar 18, Lucrecia, and Tornado of
Souls. The first Megadeth CD I bought was 'Hidden Treasures' because it had the remake of Black Sabbath's 'Paranoid'.
I listened to it and fell in love with such songs as 'Go To Hell', 'Angry Again', and 'No More Mr. Nice Guy'. One day, when I had a 'load' (Metallica pun) of money, I went and bought the 'Rust in Peace', 'Countdown to Extinction' and 'Youthanasia' CDs. I won't mention
the songs I liked from them, because you'd be stuck here reading them all. My bandmates got to meet half of Megadeth! Turns out that Dave Mustaine and Nick Menza was going to a local radio station (97.1 The Eagle) for an interview about there new CD. My bandmates go and get to meet them as
they walked between the limo and the station. They got autographs and stuff. That was cool. Anyways, on Tuesday the 17th of June, I go and buy Cryptic Writings. I had to trade in some old CDs to get it, but I didn't care. I listened to it on the way home and I literally flipped out. They totally
rocked! The CD was everything I was hoping for and more. (PS. I got a trading card as well, it has a picture of Vic holding a scroll) Well, the next day I get into a car wreck and the only thing that survived was my CD player and my Cryptic Writings CD. But the day after the car wreck, my CD player
was stolen and Cryptic Writings was inside. My dad saw that I was very upset, so he offered to buy Cryptic Writings for me as a replacement. So I grab the money and I race up to Camalot Music. I get there and take it to the counter. The guy behind the counter tells me that the CD I ordered was in. I was in shock, because I ordered the Marty Friedman 'Scenes' CD and it took them a month to get it. Anyways, I couldn't pay for it because I didn't have enough money. I take Cryptic Writings home and open it and find a cool patch in there. I just started a patch collection on my backpack and now it rests there peacefully. The next day I go back and get my Marty Friedman CD and enjoy them both. On Tuesday the 26th of August, I went to the Bronco Bowl to see Megadeth live. I go a couple hours early and see Marty Friedman bowling! That freaked me out. I go over there and talk to him. It totally blew my mind. Here I am, talking to Mr. Speed Metal himself. I quickly got his autograph. As I sat there and watched him bowl, I talked to him. I eventually got enough nerve to ask him if I could go backstage with him. He told me to write me and my friend Justin's name on a piece of paper and give it to him. We did and he said that after the show, we're in. That was cool. During the concert, I went to go get the pass and ran into some trouble. I went to the will call booth and they didn't have it. They sent me from bouncer to escort to bouncer. I walked up to one and said, "Look, just walk in there and tell Marty Friedman that Mark can't get his pass." After I said that it hit me. Marty Friedman got me a pass and i'm telling this guy that i'm friends with him. Holy shit! I go back to the will call booth and before I said anything, they handed it to me. It was an After Show pass. After an awesome Megadeth set, I go to the door. Moments later, David Ellefson comes out. His hair cut isn't that bad. Later Nick Menza and Marty Friedman come out. I got all there autographs and talked with them. Marty is definitely in my cool books. I like him the best. Nick is second, but when I tried to talk to him and David, girls were all around them. When David was posing for a picture with two girls in skimpy clothes, I whispered to my friend, "David gets all the girls." He heard me and laughed, saying "Yea, right." That ended the best night of my life...
