M7 VARIANTS
Yes it is a M7 with wheels. Though not a variant in the true sense of the word the U.S. Army , always on the search for better mobility, had this unit converted. The idea behind this test was the thought that changing the ground pressure constantly would result in better mobility. To this end the four tires on the rear of the M7 were none concentric or oval and were placed on the spindles at different orientations. I am sure it looked good on somebodies paper, but with no suspension the ride would have been awful. ( courtesy Fred W.Crismon , U.S. Military Wheeled Vehicles....told you they were good )
Rear view of the same vehicle giving nice detail of the rear. Notice how the left mid station wheel seems to be bulging more than the others. Perhaps this is due to the point of the ellipse taking up the weight of the vehicle. Of course it could be an under inflated tire too.
