Whirlygig Wallhanging

Whirlygig WallhangingThis quilt is machine pieced machine quilted. Each block is 10". It is made with the beautiful Summer at Aunt Jane's fabrics, from RJR I believe.

The quilt has a narrow framing border, and a wider border with cornerstones. I actually had to add the cornerstones because I ran out of fabric! I think it looks better with them anyway. I did this with all fat quarters, so you can replicate this with any of those wonderful fat quarter bunches that are available, as long as there are at least 6 FQs.

Whirlygig Block I designed the block myself. The block is kind of like a double pinwheel, but can you see the shoofly block hidden in the middle? At the last minute, I added in the split rectangle (at north, south, east, and west) that adds a little more dimension to the dark-green pinwheel points. I think the block has a lot of movement!

I have also designed a triple edged pinwheel, but it was starting to look like a blade from a piece of machinery, so I made this one for now.
