The Story behind it

This page also includes the following "story" behind it.

December 3rd 1999

Sunday November 28 1999 @ 9am Jim and I along with his Dad and brother [Jims brother not his dads] moved the Daytona to its new local.. located some place in Man-o-Tick.. for those that know where it is good.. cause i dont think i could explain where it is exactly.. the job went down quite good.. see the week-end before Jim and i had installed my old alt in it because i had taken the daytonas alt and put it in the Spleen.. why? well my old alt was overcharging.. [i later learned it was my regulator] anyway, the point being that we were scared my old alt would not work and we would be driving off the battery.. not a good situation to be in. But we did it anyway. To our suprise my old alt was working and everything was fine! haha! Jims dad, after driving the car there is now officially in love.. let me repeat that.. IN LOVE with it! He wants to restore it and plate it with the following "SKN MCHN" or "Skin Machine". Its a great looking car.. i'll have to upload some pic-a-tures soon.. it needs paint.. but the interior is mint and there is less than 5% rust on the thing.. the oil needs changing, the engine needs a flush as well as a whole assortment of "little things". But its parked in its winter resting spot for now.

July 4th 1999

Im looking thru the local ads "online" and see one for a 1989 Chrysler Daytona Turbo ES, red, good interior, and okay exterior.. $250.. As you can imagine i jumped on the occasion and head down to my friends house.. (we were currently working on the floor or our rally K..) i told him that i wanted to check this car out and we then headed off to see it.. i must say we were mighy impressed.. it wasnt a mint car. but then again what is? and for the $250 asking price whoes complaining? We tell the gentlemen selling the car we will let him know how we feel about the car later that day.. We do..

July 5th 1999

Jim and i decide to get the car and pay the guy 180 of the 250.. we get the old ownership and quickly do a "Vehicle Identification Number" check at www.kbb.com and find that there are currently no issues about the car.. The site (ww.kbb.com) does however tell us that it has the 2.5 Turbo.. which is good. But i must admit, we did at 1st think it was intercooled because of the rear fuel manifold (picture pending), but it wasnt as the folks on EEK! told us.. a special thanks to them for all their valuable help and advise..

July 6th 1999

we head on over to smell ville* to pay off the car.. the pending 70 bucks we owed the guy.. He's not in.. so we head back to Jim's place and his dad tells us we need some papers.. like the "used car package" So later that day (7ish) we call up the guy and tell him this information.. that we need this "used car package" and well after some telephone difficulties (phone was getting cut off.. at 1st we thought he would play the "im never home trick.. take the 180 and run.. and we are stuck with nothing.. we didnt even have the keys!!) we finally get thru and the guy tells us he will get them..

July 9th 1999

we again head out to smell ville* and pay the guy off the 70 bucks thats been in my front pocket for acouple of days.. we get the "used car package" and a reciept to prove we bought the car.. we get the keys and then after giving the car another once over we leave.. (now satisfied the car has rear disk.. we at 1st thought they had drums on 1st looking at them.. but were relieved to find they were infact disc!) But not after fighting off the "sheep dog". No, not a regulat sheep dog.. this dog wasnt for herding.. haha.. this dog looked like a sheep a little sheep and ran like one too.. fat, lazy.. made a lot of noise. It also had way to much hair for its own good.. (it was actually scratching it off!)

July 10th 1999

once again and hopefully for the last time we (me, jim his dad and brother..) head over to smell ville* to get the car.. up on boosting it we see the fuel is urinating from the fuel filter.. we suspect rotted clamps.. i then jacked up the car while Jims dad headed out to get some smaller #4 clamps.. when he arrives back i crawl under the car and fix the leak.. we boost the car again, and we are off.. (plated of course.. with all the legalities we need) the daytona 1st, followed by Jim's "PNJ" (Pride 'N Joy. an '85 GOLD Plymouth Carravelle with e-coded headlamps and BLAST MODE!). On 1st hitting the street the speedo is not working.. but the tach is.. which is good..(we never drove over 2600 rpm.. so we never got to see weither the turbo worked or not) did i also mention this car wasn't a stick? It was an auto which was even better.. i mean sticks are better but it saved us from having to drive a car back with a potentially rotted out clutch (i.e stalling.. stone cold battery. bad mix). Anyway 10 minutes into the ride the speedo decided to join the ride.. well we finally got it to were we wanted .. and locked it up and went home.. the car rode fine.. needs new brakes.. and needs for the bugs to be worked out literally.. but other than that it will make a good parts car for out rally K..

July 11th 1999 10:00 am

I call up jim and he tells me that last night at about 9:20pm they got a call from the police that the daytona was stolen.. STOLEN! Apparently somebody that saw us park the car thought we stole it.. and called the cops.. what a dink... They (the police) asked Jims dad "did you buy a car today?" well Jims dad told them we had permission to park the car.. and they "understood" and left the matter at that.. geezz.. i wish people would mind there own business.. yes i would steal a car with a dead battery by giving it a boost.. then drive it to a public place and park it on private property.. ya right.. some thief i am ;-)

Note: * means the Daytona was localed near farms.. and the farms were using "SHEEP EXTRACT" if you know what i mean..
