In Australia, there is no requirement to divide troops by age groups. Instead, it is left to the discretion of the individual troop and leader whether they wish to accept all girls in their area of school age through 18 years or use the more traditional Girl Guide age-based designations. Another facet to guiding somewhat different is that troops tend to be more interest driven. Again, at the discretion of the troop and troop leader, they may choose a specific field of concentration. Thus, troops may vary from equiestrian to oceanographic in emphasis. What remains the same from troop to troop is the essense of guiding, the four elements represented in the trefoil: physical, people, practical, and self.
