These powerful, enchanted creatures are something of an anomaly throughout the land of Azeroth. They are not known for their ill temper, but if provoked, these hulking creatures will defend themselves and their nesting grounds with ferocity. Fond of the legendary "singing crystals" of Stranglethorn, the Basilisks have learned that consuming these crystals will give them exceptional powers to lull their prey to sleep or even turn them to stone. As a side effect of eating the crystals, the Basilisk have mutated: the mystical crystals now grow from their scaly hides, giving them even greater power against their enemies.

These large, lumbering beasts reside throughout the frozen regions of Khaz Modan and Northrend. Their thick furs allow them to survive the harsh elements. Fiercely territorial, bears will defend the territories around their dens or if they believe their cubs are being threatened. Bears are feared for their speed and strength, and most adventurers are wise enough to avoid them if possible. Those that can not avoid a fight usually end up having their attacks interrupted, as larger bears have a mauling effect that will likely stun and rend flesh alike.

These formidable beasts may have originated from a wild variety of Treant that has adapted to the more swampy environments of Kalimdor. Blending almost perfectly with their surroundings, these slow-moving monstrocities use their natural camoflauge and brute strength to their advantage. Bog Beasts aren't very territorial or agressive unless provoked or backed into a corner.

What once were believed to be only whispers and rumors of attacks by savage and cruel bands of furbolgs in the night elves' enchanted forest have become an increasing concern for the Sentinels. It is thought that the passing of the Burning Legion and the vestiges of its demonic taint drove the simple and peaceful bear-men to madness. Their aged and wizened leaders have been replaced by ruthless firebrrands who lead the crazed furbolgs to prey upon the denizens of Ashenvale Forest. Where the furbolgs coexisted peacefully with the night elves for ages, with claw and fang they now seek to carve out their own home in the endless forest.

The Giant is a truly mighty creature indeed. Standing several times taller than the normal character, they are a frightening sight on any battlefield. They are likely ancient beings awoken from their slumber. Needless to say, one Giant is more than a match for several characters to face. So far the Giant has been seen weilding a massive iron maul. The Giant is one of the more fantastic enemies that awaits adventurers willing to pit themselves against the trials within the Stranglethorn gladetorial arena.

Gnolls are one of the younger races of Lordaeron. Indigenous to both the Alterac Mountains and the Redridge Range far to the South, these hyena-like humanoids are extremely agressive and are often found quarreling amongst themselves. Though relatively intelligent compared to most beasts, they are not very bright by human standards. They have been known to manipulate each other into fights over ridiculous things like "whose shadow is larger". It has often been stated that the gnolls would be quite a fearsome race, if they ever stopped tearing each other to pieces long enough to organize themselves into an army.

The cunning Gnoll packs of the Redridge Mountains have notoriously plagued the Human and Dwarven kingdoms alike. Recent times, however, have seen the Riverpaw Pack of Gnolls became a more ominous threat, raiding farms and Human villages throughout Elwynn forest. Many speculate that the historically dimwitted Gnolls have conspired with another force, which is equipping them with weapons, tactical leadership, and magic. Though it is unclear what the Gnolls are after, the Stormwind Marshals have now realized that the creatures pose an obvious threat to the kingdom and must be eradicated.

The terrifying Harvest Golems are mechanical constructs programmed to hunt down and terminate the Human inhabitants of Westfall. Though their origin is uncertain, some believe that only the wily Goblins could have created these mechanical monstrosities. Others speculate that the Defais Thieves had the Harvest Golems built to scare off the local inhabitants of Westfall so that they could run their smuggling operations with greater impunity. Whatever the case may be, the Harvest Golems have done their jobs well - eliciting terror in anyone foolish enough to roam the fallow fields of Westfall alone.

Stone Golems are large, magically animated abominations. They are created by the Kobolds of the Elwynn Forest region, and it is the rituals of their Geomancers that bring them to life. It is believed that before they were enslaved, the Kobolds would create these golems for peaceful or defensive purposes only, but now many fear their captors are forcing them to ceacelessly produce these as machines of war.

Once content to confine themselves to their ancestral home in the peaks of the Stonetalon Mountains, the feral and vicious harpies of Kalimdor have spread their influence across the length and breadth of the continent. Their nests, littered with the gruesome remains of their victims, are now a common sight from the arid mesas of Durotar to the lush forests of Kalidar.

The grimy, vermin-like Kobolds dwell deep within the crags and rocky caves of the Redridge Mountains. These slovenly creatures are best known for their penchant for digging and their underground excavations. Most recently, the Kobolds have found themselves falling prey to the merciless Riverpaw Pack of Gnolls. These cunning Gnolls have proven themselves to be merciless taskmasters, forcing the Kobolds into an existence of neverending drudgery. Since their enslavement, the historically meek Kobolds have grown bitter and aggressive toward any creature that meddles with their ceaseless labor.

Toad-like in nature, Murlocs are much more at home in the swampy regions of the world. They hunt using primitive spears or short swords, which they use very effectively. Most have bright colors decorating their skin; however, some are accustomed to not being seen, and blend into the surrounding swamp using the dark blues and blacks of their hides.

Though relatively new to Lordaeron, it is proposed that Murlocs are actually a very ancient race of Azeroth. These creatures have steadily been moving in-land from their oceanic dwelling places, even adapting to fresh-water lakes and rivers in order to populate areas they would not normally be found in. Though they continue to inhabit more areas of Lordaeron, their supposed intelligence is debateable due to the fact that their guttural language is impossibly difficult to decipher. However, their use of weaponry and uncanny fighting abilities imply a rather sinister racial intellect.

The Ogre-Magi were originally a small band of loyal Ogre enforcers of the Orcish Hordes, transformed by Gul'Dan into scheming and malicious sorcerers. By warping and twisting the Elf-magiks of the Runestone at Caer Darrow, Gul'Dan was able to infuse the magical abilities of the long dead Warlocks into the bodies of these unsuspecting hosts. Once hulking simpletons, the transformed Ogre-Magi can direct their death magiks as easily as their lesser cousins would deliver a crushing blow to any foolish enough to stand in their path. The Ogre-Magi have also become extremely cunning and insidious... Spells they are reknown for are Bloodlust and the Eye of Kilrog.

The Ogres are monstrous two-headed giants that were once allies of the Orcs. They were brought through the Portal by the Warlock Gul'Dan after the First War to act as enforces in an effort to quell needless infighting between the Orc clans. Due to the constant bickering between their two heads, Ogres exhibit less intelligence than even the lowly Peons. Their incredible strength and natural toughness, however, make them some of the fiercest warriors.

A foul product of necromancy, the skeleton feels no pain and usually fights until it is ground down to dust. Currently, skeletons are abundant in the northern reaches of Azeroth. This is a result of the magical plague that has gripped the land for quite some time. It is best to be wary when you see one skeleton, for it is doubtful that there is only one and most likely that it's master is lurking nearby.

According to early legend, after the Titans chained the Ancient Gods beneath the world, they attempted to forge a race to protect the harmony of the planet. Their first experiment failed, however, and the land was riddled with violent creatures known as Troggs. Recognizing their mistake, the Titans buried the Troggs far beneath the soil. In recent times, the eager digging of the Dwarves has released Troggs upon Khaz-Modan once again. In Dun Morogh, the Rockjaw tribe found its way to daylight when the Dwarven tunneling at the Gol'Bolar Quarry delved too deeply under the snowy mountains.
