Coming from the middle class background, Urmila, the daughter of a lecturer, have one younger sister Mamta who is married and one elder brother Kedar who's in Air Force. Urmila, first faced the camera at the age of 10. Right from a childhood she was interested in dancing and singing. The golden break for her came in the form of Masoom, for which shekhar Kapoor selected her from among hundreds of other kids to play the role of the eldest daughter of Naseeruddin Shah. The film was appreciated and so was her role. In fact Gulzarji had made a statement saying Urmila will definitely make it big as an actress someday. This came true, but it took some time.
This Period was tough for Urmila. She did not get any other offers, because she was an adolescent. she could neither play a child, or a grown up. Lady luck knocked for a second time. Urmila played heroine in Salim's Aa Gale Lag Jaa. The film flopped, but Urmila came across as an actress. Though she had a series of flops after that, she still remained around till she finally did Rangeela for Ram Gopal Verma and Then there was no looking back. With films like Satya,, Kaun,, Kunwara, Pyaar Tune Kya Kiya and many more. She is currently ruling the hearts of millions. |
