Frederick Tope Family

Frederick Tope was born in 1768 at Frederick County, Maryland. He is believed to have been the son of Johann Heinrich Daub (wife Elizabeth) from Prussia who died in Fayette County, Pennsylvania. Frederick was married ca 1788 to Elizabeth Ann "Betsy" Grammar, daughter of Rev John Jacob Grammar and Elizabeth Hopper. She was born in 1773 at Kentucky and died around 1843 in Union County, Illinois. The were the parents of the following:

1. Mary "Polly" (1789-1865) who married Andrew Penrod , son of Samuel and Mary Jane (Kimmel) Penrod. Andrew and Mary had the following children: Eleazer, Barbara, Susan, Margaret, John, Andrew, George and James.

2. Joseph (1791- bef 1795)

3. Susannah (1793-?) never married

4. Elizabeth Ruth (1795-?) who married Presley Taylor and Young John Vancil.

5. Jacob (1796- aft 1850) who married Elizabeth Fisher and had the following children: Barbara, Matilda, Andrew, Nancy, James, Moses, Rebecca, Delilah, William, Elizabeth Jane and George.

6. Malinda (1797-?) who married Miles Coleman

7. Barbara (9 Oct 1799- 25 Jan 1878) who married John Penrod, son of Samuel and Mary Jane (Kimmel) Penrod. John and Barbara had the following children: Mary E., Hannah, Allen, Jacob, Emmanuel, John, Oliver B., Willis, William Henry Harrison, Singleton and Mary Elizabeth.

8. John (1801- aft 1850) who married Malinda and had a son David.

9. Frederick Jr (1805- aft 1850) who married Julia Barker and had children: Synthia, William and Mary.

10. William A. (1811- aft 1850) who married Nancy Moore and had the following children: James, William A. Jr, Sarah E., Susannah, Vienna and Nancy.

11. George (1816- 6 Apr 1845) who married Easter Lindsey and had a daughter Charlotte.

 

After Elizabeth's death, Frederick married her much younger sister, Elmira Grammar on 3 Jun 1839 at Union County, Illinois. Frederick died 30 Dec 1842 in Union County, Illinois. Below is his Last Will and Testament.

I, Frederick Tope of the County of Union and State of Illinois, being weak of body but of sound mind and memory, do make ordain and establish this to be my last Will and Testiment, hereby revoking all others, and I do hereby appoint Jacob Zimmerman and Elvira Tope my beloved wife to be the executors of this my last will and testiment- 1st It is my will that all my last debts be paid and that a sufficient of my of my personal property be sold for that purpose-and After the payments of of all my debts, and funeral expenses, I do here devise and bequeath to my beloved wife the farm and improvements wherein on which I now live, known as the North East Quarter of the North East Quarter of Section Eleven in Township South of Range Two West, containing 40 acres more or less, the remaining of my personal property, I will and bequeath to my beloved wife. In Testimony Whereof I have here unto set my hand and offisced(?) my seal, this 27th day of August A.D. 1842
