The Penrod Family
John Penrod was born ca 1726 in Frederick County, Maryland. It is speculated that he is the son of Johann(es) Wilhelm "Benrath" Poenradt and his wife Gertrude. Around 1746 John Penrod married Catherine Barron in Frederick County, Maryland. Catherine was born around 1730 in Somerset County, Pennsylvania.
They had the following children:
1. John (1748-1836) who married Sarah Davis and they had the following children : Isaac, David, John, Elijah, Mary, Amy, Sarah, Jacob and Lydia.
2. Mary (1750-1815) who married Jonathan Vancil and they had the following children: Tobias, Daniel, Samuel, Jonas, John, Mary, Elias, Edmund, Catherine, Isaac and Adam (married Katherine Penrod, daughter of Emmanuel Penrod)
3. David (1753-1836) who married Barbara Shontz
4. Soloman (1754-1810) who married Sarah and had Allen, Samuel and David.
5. Druscilla (1756-1803) who married Phillip Kimmel and had the following children: Mariah, Jane, Phillip, Daniel, Benjamin, John, George and David.
6. Emmanuel (1760-1843) who married Fanny Long and had a daughter Katherine who married Adam Vancil (see above).
7. Israel (1764-1836) who married Elizabeth and had the following children: Mary, John, Israel, Peter, Joseph, Soloman, Jacob and Isaac.
8. Samuel (1765-aft 1820) who married Mary Jane Kimmel and had the following children: Samuel, John, Andrew, Emmaunel, Lewis, Barbara, Randolph and Jonathon.
9. Elijah (1768-1818) who had the following children: Jacob, Betsy, John, Eleazor and Peter.

Samuel Penrod (1765-aft 1820) is my 5G grandfather. The sources I have found for Samuel are these:
1. 1790 Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania census
2. 1810 Muhlenberg County, Kentucky census
3. 1818 Union County, Illinois census
4. Bought land in Union County, Illinois from William Hickam. Samuel purchased 124 acres for $4,480.
5. 1820 Union County, Illinois census
Next, we move on to:
John Penrod (6 Jul 1791-15 Aug 1843) who married Barabara Tope in March 1815 at Union County, Illinois. Barbara Tope (9 Oct 1799-25 Jan 1878) was the daughter of Frederick Tope and Elizabeth Ann Grammar. They had the following children:
1. Mary Elizabeth (7 May 1816-3 Oct 1893) who married John O'Daniel
2. Hannnah (30 Aug 1818-23 Jun 1836) who married Edmond Hagler. Hannah died from childbirth complications. Her daughter, Susan lived.
3. Allen (19 Apr 1821-23 Mar 1853) who married Lucinda Zimmerman and had sons George and Andrew.
4. Jacob (2 Dec 1823-19 Jul 1847) who married Louisa Ann Grammar and had a daughter Emma Caroline who married Isaac Tweedy.
5. Emmanuel (3 Sep 1826-9 Apr 1913) who married Esper Anna Sides and had a daughter Eleanor.
6. John Grammer (15 Mar 1829-17 Feb 1865) who married Rachel Zimmerman and Mary Gregory.
7. Oliver (20 Sep 1831-3 Sep 1908) who married Anna Hubbard and had a daughter Hulda Amelia. He married the second time to Hanhattah Mower and had the following children: Oliver Allen, Annie Angeline, John Albert, Cyrus Alfred, Ida Therasha and William.
8. Willis (21 Dec 1833-27 Apr 1834)
9. William Henry Harrison (20 Nov 1836-19 Sep 1922) who married Nancy. His second wife was Lucine and they had the following children: Elizabeth E., William A., Annie L.M. and David. E.L..
10. Singleton (5 Apr 1839-9 Dec 1861) who had a daughter named Hulda.
11. Mary Elizabeth (10 Jan 1842-22 Sep 1922) who married David Bowman Byebee and had the following children: Barbara Ellen, Mary Alice, Byram Lee, John Allen, Oliver Henry, Hannah Bird, Betsy Jane, Effie Josephine, Parley Emmanuel and Clarence Albert.

Jacob Penrod (2 Dec 1823-19 Jul 1847) married 16 Sep 1844 to Louisa Ann Grammar (22 Oct 1829- 31 Jan 1907) in Cape Girardeau County, Missouri. Louisa was the daughter of Dr. Joel Grammar and Catherine Elizabeth Clapp. Jacob enlisted at Alton, Illinois May 29, 1847 and died July 19, 1847 atFt Leavenworth, Missouri. He joined to fight in the Mexican War in the 1st Regiment Company H. His father-in-law and his wife's new husband were appointed guardians of his daughter Emma.
