The Earliest documented Tweedy in my line is Robert Tweedy born ca 1765 in South Carolina (probably Laurens County). It is believed that he is the son of William Tweedy of Laurens County, South Carolina who was born ca 1740.
Robert married ca 1789 to a Miss Tempy. He died ca 1831 in Union County, Illinois. According to the list of Early Settlers of Union County, Illinois, Robert settled there 23 Jun 1807. Robert and Miss Tempy had the following (known) children: John (Mary Craft), Mary (James Abernathy), William, Mansfield (Sarah McGory), Joseph, Balaretta(Christopher James) and Robert (Catherine) Tweedy.
John Tweedy, son of Robert above, was born in 1791 at Laurens County, South Carolina. He died in 1840 at Union County, Illinois. He married Mary Craft, daughter of Thomas Craft on 30 Aug 1811 at Union County, Illinois. They were the parents of: James Monroe (Charlotte (Bizzell) Craig), Singleton Perry (Mary Burton, Permilia Zimmerman), John (Mary J. Grammar), Eleanor Ellen (Berry Provence), Robert Craft (Evaline Steerman), Eliza (Alphonso Grammar), Surilda, William George (Sarah Hill), Lucinda (John Craig) and Mary L. (William Collier) Tweedy.
Taken from the will of Jane Craft - John was a witness, and signed his own name. Jane is probably his wife's grandmother.
James Monroe Tweedy, son of John above, was born 22 Mar 1817 near Preston, Union County, Illinois. He died 31 Mar 1904 at Alto Pass, Union County, Illinois. He married to Charlotte Bizzell Craig on 30 Aug 1838 in Union County, Illinois. Charlotte is the daughter of Isaac Bizzell and Zilphia Musgrave. She had previously been married to an unknown Mr. Craig. Charlotte was born 12 May 1817 in Tennessee and died 18 Nov 1904 at Alto Pass, Union County, Illinois. They were the parents of the following children: Isaac (Emma Caroline Penrod), Nancy, Mary (Virgil Ricks), John (Caroline Leeright), Zilpha (William Bittle), Emily (John Smith), Ellen (John Hoffman), Elizabeth Alice (Charles T. Messamore), James F. (Alice Freeman), Willis A. (Melinda), Robert (Olive) and Benjamin Jackson (Harriet Davis, Sarah Bell Johnson) Tweedy.
Isaac Tweedy, son of James Monroe above, was born 22 Sep 1839 and died 29 Jul 1890 in Union County, Illinois. On 15 May 1861 at Jackson County, Illinois, he married Emma Caroline Penrod, daughter of Jacob and Louisa (Grammar) Penrod. They were the parents of: Zilpha (Dr. M.L. Winstead), Minnie H. (Moses Black), John H. (Alice Martin), James Jacob (Martha Isabelle Morgan), Charlotte and Fountain Alonzo (Lenorah Lindsey).
James Jacob Tweedy, son of Isaac above, was born 29 Jul 1871 and died 13 Aug 1935 in Union County, Illinois. On 28 Jan 1896 at Union County, Illinois, he married Martha Isabelle Morgan, daughter of Herman B. and Rebecca Emaline (Smith) Morgan. They were the parents of: infant, Elsa (Tiffin Frogge, Arthur Seabaugh), Alvin (Eunice), Melvin H. (Clara Andrews), Bernice (Herman Seabaugh), Ralph (Eula Kimmel), Rufus (Stella Wolf, Minnie Ellis), Dorothy Lee (Rufus J. Cook), Carl (Jenice Menz) and Paul (Pauline Bond).
