Episode Guide
Following the end of G Gundam in early 1995, Gundam W took its place and became the second alternate universe television series. Set in the After Colony (AC) universe, this war drama bears many similarities to the shows of the Universal Century. Directed by Masashi Ikeda and written by Katsuyuki Sumizawa (both of whom worked on Samurai Troopers, aka Ronin Warriors), Gundam W (or Wing also) was a huge hit in Japan. Featuring stylish Gundams from long time mecha designer Kunio Okawara and pretty boys galore, it reached out to a new audience that the franchise had yet to win over: younger girls and boys. In many ways, the plot of the series is a rehash of the events chronicled from Mobile Suit Gundam up to Char's Counterattack, making it a 'Cliff's Notes to Gundam' in a sense. In early 2000, Cartoon Network and Bandai made a bold move by bringing this series to American TV. Shown in both a daily edited and uncut format, the series has become as popular in the U.S. as in Japan. Following its success in the U.S., the series has aired in many other countries around the world and earned high ratings.
