Dear Editor;
      Most people have no love for history.  They do not realize how important it is.  You know what the say: history repeats itself.  But if we learned from the mistakes the first time, that wouldn't happen again.
      In history classes, we talk so much about the world and the United States, but little is said about Iowa, or even local history.
      Few people know about what Carroll County used to be like.  Many questions go unanswered.  How did Carrollton disappear?  Why did the county seat move from Carrollton to Carroll City?  Who is Merle Hay?  How did Carroll High School get started?  What about St. Antony's Hospital, Kuemper High School (formorally the St. Angela Instatute), the Carnegie Library, and the Episcopal Church?  What's so famous about the Burke Inn?  There is a lot of history in this are, but most people don't know it.
      I understand that American and World history are important, but isn't our local history important too?  Wouldn't it be important to know where you're from?
      Knowing our history would make us all proud to say "I'm from Carroll, Iowa," or "I'm from Carroll County."  Not just a town in west central Iowa.  There are several towns in this great country that are called "Carroll" but ours is the only one with a population over three hundred.  We should be proud of our great city (as well as our county) and should have great pride in our local history.
Sincerely,
Heather A. Hoffman

And with that in mind, I'd like to dedicate this page, and all the other historical pages out there to our own heritige.  We are apart of history too!
