CLARA went into production in the fall of 2001 and wrapped principle photography in the winter 2002. The collaboration process involved many creative talents from conception of the story through the post-production phase.
The story's premise is that of a soldier sent off to war in another solar system,  and the regret he feels towards the family he left behind on Earth.
To produce the film, writer/director Jason Hagen teamed up with co-Director of Photography Tim Wattez to tackle the visual look of the film. The film's story demanded two distinct levels of reality; that which is reality and that which is in the shell-shocked mind of the story's anti-hero D. Blake. The remaining key areas of the film included production design, 3D & 2D animation, and scoring.
Paul Corazzo of Corazzo Studios in Mound, MN worked with Jason Hagen in originating a tomb-like cockpit set (the TDC Jade) in which the main action of the film takes place. The set design took approximately two months to conceptualize and one month for construction in Eden Prairie, MN. MCAD alumn Robert Wagner assisted greatly with the construction and lighting of the TDC Jade interior.
Freelance Animator Tom DiTolla and Interactive Designer Brent Swanson worked on the 3D and After Effects sequences involved in the film. To assist in editing, Jason Hagen worked closely with independent editor      Jason Schwanz on his Final Cut Pro system. And for scoring, Jason turned  to his Art Institute of Phoenix, AZ alumn Raymond Heredia. Raymond scored original music for the film while he attended UC Riverside.
The final film was completed December 9th, 2002.
