“The world hasn‘t ended.  He’s just one guy out of so many millions in this world.”  Jade sighed and walked around the room.  Angel just hung her head, broken.  She couldn’t help but feel distraught.  After all, Samuel
had been her boyfriend for two years.

Jade continued her tirade.  “He wasn’t any good for you, Angel.  He was a sick bastard.  I still can’t believe you care about him after he banged that ugly whore you used to work with.”  Jade shuddered at the thought of anyone having sex with Lucy.  She was just gross.

“What did she have that I didn’t?”  Angel asked in a small voice.  A single tear, hot and salty, slipped from her eye and landed in her lap.  She didn’t move to wipe the wetness from her face.

Jade rolled her eyes.  Angel had been asking that same question for the past two weeks, since she found out about Samuel’s infidelity.  She kneeled on the floor in front of Angel.  “Let’s go out tonight.  Didn’t you mention to me a week ago that a new club was opening up tonight?  Didn’t you say that Joseph told you it would look good for Subway Records if you made an appearance?”

Angel brightened.  “Yeah, actually he did.  He said that since I was the best producer Subway had, I should make an effort to go out and network with the big wigs a little more often.”  She chuckled softly.  “I think it’s kind of funny to think of little ol’ me mingling with the stars.”

Jade furrowed her brow.  “And why would it be funny?  You are the mastermind behind Eminem’s new album.  God knows he hadn’t had a hit since ‘Stan.’  You brought back his career.”

Angel laughed because she knew it was true.  “Did you really want to go?”

Jade smiled widely.  “Duh.  Working at Starbuck’s, I don’t get the opportunity to meet many big stars.”  Angel laughed.  It was directed at Jade.  “But I still get free coffee.”  Jade stuck her tongue out.

“That’s true, you lucky wench.”  Angel stood up and wiped off her face.  “Did you think maybe Jamie and Natalie would want to go?”

Jade shrugged.  “I dunno.  But we can always ask them.”

Angel walked to the door to leave.  She paused and turned back to Jade with a grin.  “Thanks. You’re a good friend.  After Samuel just called me like that and told me it was over I didn’t think I could make it.  I know it has been two weeks already; I just didn’t think I could let him go.  I still love him, but I think I am ready to consider maybe starting to think about myself again.”

Jade smiled.  “Hey, you’d do the same for me.  Now go and get ready.  I’ve gotta pick out something to wear.”

Angel opened the door and stepped into the hallway.  “Natalie?” she called out.  “Jamie?”

“In here!”  A male voice answered.

Angel went into the den where the two other roommates were sitting on the sofa watching TV.  “Wow,” Natalie said, genuinely surprised,  “I’m surprised to see you out of bed.”

Angel shrugged guiltily, knowing she had only been coming out of her room to eat and go to work.  “Yeah, well… I sort of have this thing to do tonight for Subway Records.  Remember that new club that’s opening downtown?”  Jamie and Natalie nodded.  “Well, it’s supposed to be a celebrity hotspot, considering Steve Barbell is the one running the show.”

Jamie looked perplexed.  “And Steve Barbell would be… who exactly?”

Angel laughed.  “He’s big in the music business.  He’s the owner of a little record company you may have heard of called Jive.”

Jamie and Natalie’s eyes grew wide.  “Whoa,” Natalie said, awed.  “I am so there.”

“You can count me in also,” Jamie said.

Angel shook her head in disbelief.  “I just can’t believe a little hick town like Liberty Valley, Texas would ever become this popular.  And all because a man named Joseph Hopkins decided to open up Subway Records here.  And now that Subway is one of the major labels, all the other studios followed.  It’s amazing.”

Jamie laughed.  “Well, since we should probably be leaving soon, I guess I had better go get ready.”  He got up and gave Angel a quick hug and a kiss on her forehead.  Natalie agreed and jumped up and went to her room.  Angel sat down on the couch and turned off the TV with the remote control.  She savored the silence, then took a deep breath and headed to her room to get dressed.
