The following letter is an example of students’ writings. It shows the use of both tenses:

Folded Corner: Dear friend, I’m sorry I haven’t written for a long time. I got your last letter in July. A lot of things have happened since then. In August we went on holiday to Syria. It was great! I have never had such good time. I saw many interesting places. Only two bad things happened there. I lost my new camera, and my sister fell off our hotel balcony. In September I started at my new school. I have already made a lot of friends. One more bit news: yesterday, I painted my room – bright orange!
