This be one hell of an outing, brought to us by those Tarantino and Rodriguez guys, who would also bring us the sequel, "Texas Blood Money". This baby starts off with the newly hunted Gecko brothers, Ritchie (Tarantino!) and Seth (George Clooney!?) as they lay waste to a couple of guys and a perfectly good liquor store! Well, the two then take hostage an ex-minister (Harvey Kietel), his hot teenage daughter (Juliette Lewis), and his adopted son (some Asian kid) at a hotel. The group then make a run for the border, stopping at "the Titty Twister": a happy little family spot (strip joint) where the bros are to meet their "hook-up". Well, this leads to more carnage, as we find out that the place is just a front for the local chapter of "Bloodsuckers Is Us", as they're attacked by a legion of vampires! Ritchie is soon "changed", then staked, as are Harvey and the Asian kid. But, with the help of the life-giving sun (and a cache of stolen artillery!) both Seth and the luscious reverand's daughter manage to survive to see the light of... Cheech Marin?! Yes, Senor Marin actually has 3 roles in this movie! Also, Mr. Blood N Guts himself, Tom Savini, plays the leather-clad bad ass, Sex Machine (YES that IS his name!) with his whip and pistol codpiece! This is THE best modern set vampire movie so far, in my opinion! Get it now! Also kids, remember the 69th commandment: pay tribute to thy Death God and thy genitals!
DVD X-tras : (for the double disk collector's edition) Disk 1 - this is actually the disk for "Full Tilt Boogie": a documentary of FROM DUSK TILL DAWN. It includes video from an interview at a '95 Fango convention and the usual "making of..." stuff. Also, there are some interesting parts, like Juliette Lewis's birthday celebration and the tense times when the film crew was bitching about wages and threatening to strike! It's odd though, a 95 minute documentary on a 107 minute movie...
Disk 2 - Here we get a commentary track from the wackos Rodriguez and Tarantino; outtakes; ANOTHER documentary called "Hollywood Goes to Hell"; trailer and TV spots, much like the variety found on the FIGHT CLUB double-disk; music videos for "After Dark" (the song, not the movie) and "She's Just Killing Me"; a BIG still gallery; MORE behind-the-scenes shit called, "the Making of the Movie"; deleted scenes and alternate takes, including more Savini action and freaky vampires, complete with optional commentary track; M O R E "making of..." shit with "On the Set"; and finally, bios for the cast and crew... sweet shit, that's what I call getting your money's worth!
Sequels: FROM DUSK TILL DAWN 2: TEXAS BLOOD MONEY and FROM DUSK TILL DAWN 3: THE HANGMAN'S DAUGHTER (both are actually prequels, but who's counting?)
