New News and Rumors Page

8/7/03- On local news yesterday (August 6), there was a news item regarding the rumored Extreme House. Some of the stuff that they talked about was that you'll need to be 18 or older to go through it. At some time you'll be locked in a coffin, and you'll need to wear a harness and the floor may drop out from under you at some parts of the maze.
6/18/03- It's not a huge batch of rumors like the last one I got, but heres a small update on the rumors that someone sent me. Marvel Superhero Island sounds like it might stay to it's theme like it did last year and would show what would happen a year after all of the superheros were captured. I wonder how this ties into the Extreame house that's rumored to go into the Marvel Soundstage?

Also, Dueling Dragons may have some added scares this year, but I haven't heard what they might be. Maybe they could put lots and lots of monsters in the castle...

6/10/03- Universal's Creative Department seems to be getting their act together with Halloween horror Nights this year. I just got a few big hunks of information about what's happening for the event so far, lets see how much actually happens...

I've heard a few different things about what will be this years theme/mascot. The first thing that I've been hearing from many people is that the Caretaker will return this year. He may just return to do another Screamhouse, or be the mascot again, only paired up with some other character. If the Caretaker doesn't get the spot as lead role for the second year, The Master may be this years mascot, if not paired with the Caretaker (see The Masters picture on Hauntfreaks.com). Last year the Master, although not acknowledged by that name, did hang around the Caretaker in Port of Evil, so it would work for him to be co-mascot with the Caretaker. That is if The Master's story doesn't pick up where the Caretaker leaves off and the Caretaker possible becomes a patent in the asylum (keep reading). The third mascot idea that I've heard is about a movie director who kills his stars in production. I don't see this happening, and can't see the Caretaker pairing up with him at all, but there is a lot of movie based stuff planned this year, so we shall see...

Now for what will happen in the park... HHN will take place in Islands of Adventure again this year, and I think it's safe to say that the event will not spread to Universal Studios (park) as well. The big news so far is that Universal is planning a 6th haunted house instead of the normal 5 to keep up with Busch Gardens. Also, unlike last year, when all of the stuff in the Islands was at least losely themed to what it is during the day, this year anything goes and nighttime will be totally different from the day. For example, Jurassic Park. Instead of having killer dinosaurs stalking you like last year, the Island will be themed as "The Asylum." I haven't heard anything about this, but it's a bit of my speculation that if The Asylum happens, Alfred Kane (The Caretaker) may be one of the residents. I'm not sure if there will be an Asylum themed haunted house on the Island, but from what I've heard it sounds like there won't be, which is probably a good thing so they don't rip off Busch Gardens Escape from Insaity Haunted House. The reason for me saying there probably won't be is because Universal Management wasn't too fond of putting a Haunted House in Triceretops Encouter because it was too dark, and the resturant is reserved for a revival of a Haunted House form of The Midway of the Bizzare. I was personally hoping for an original idea because I'm kind of tired of the killer clowns, but what could you do. It still makes Jurassic Park, or The Asylum a good island. Crazy Stalkers (I'm sure with Chain Saws), Killer Clowns, and Dinosaurs. What more could you ask for?

For Toon Lagoon, I've heard that where Scary Tales II was last year, there will be a haunted house based losely on the movie Ghost Ship. It's not my favorite idea, but it does work being in the queue of the Popeye Ride. And is it just me, or didn't they have a Haunted house based on a haunted ship a few years back? I haven't heard much about the theme of the whole island, if there is going to be one.

Then for Suess Landings. If the park is going to bring back the Caretaker, what else to do than to bring back Scream House for a updated version of Scream House II, perhaps run by the Master instead. Chances are it'll be in the same Soundstage as last year, and another haunted house will probably go into the adjacent soundstage.

Another house that I've heard of is an Extreame House. Imagine last years fear factor, but instead of just walking through, you need to crawl through all kinds of gross stuff, in and out of coffins, cages, etc, all while blindfolded. I personally can't see this happening, espically the blindfolded part, but I would love for this to happen. That would actually change Halloween Horror Nights from a bunch of slightly scary funhouses where people go boo to a terrifying haunted house where you have to push your way through stuff, and actually work to get out away from the scares. Last years Howl O Scream was pushing towards this with their Escape from Insanty and the Morgutary and I would love for Universal to make their Haunted Houses actually terrifying. For their lack of being scary, I'm actually having my doubts about attending the event this year and only going to Busch Gardens, but if HHN did this, all of my doubts would be cleared. I'm thinking this may go into the second soundstage by Scream House or in the Soundstage that was built espically for Haunted Houses behind Marvel Superhero Island.

There's also rumors for a Movie Villans Haunted House being included in this year's Haunted House lineup. Sounds cool. They have all of the scariest movie villans, but I just hope it's not a bunch of Michael Myers and Chuckie dolls. Instead, use the villians that you can't buy their masks at any Wal-Mart that you walk into around Halloween. I think this will probably go into the soundstage by Screamhouse. I'm not sure what's going on with the other islands at this point, but I'm sure it'll be good. I'll keep you posted!!!

6/9/03- Sounds like for 2003, Universal may add a 6th haunted house to keep up with Busch Gardens 6 haunted houses that they have for Howl O Scream. This is good news, because if Universal keeps letting the same amount of people into the parks that they did on previous years, that means that with another Haunted House, the lines should be shorter. Where will this haunted house be? A few of my guesses are in the line for the Dr. Suess Monorail (probably geared more towards kids if it was in here), or more likely, somewhere in the Lost Continent espically since last year it was the only island with out a Haunted House. I could see it going into the Dueling Dragons Castle, Posidions fury, or maybe in a soundstage that you get to from the lost continent. Another possibility is to put the 6th house in an adjacent soundstage from where Scream House was last year. But then again, it's still a rumor so there may not be a 6th haunted house at all.

My opinion would be to put a haunted house at every possible spot in the park. Maybe having 9 or 10 haunted houses. Enough so you weuldn't be able to everything in one night, but I know that won't happen...

5/14/03- Finally! It seems like we got ourselves a set of rumors from a reliable source. Seems like the whole Midnight Falls project for HHN was actually something that was canceled to convert Ripsaw Falls into Midnight falls. Also some rumors about this years mascot. And then there is the rumors about Bill and Teds theme/replacement, and stuff about a possible parade this year. Check it all out at...

Hauntfreaks.com

Also... Be patient, but a brand new design for this site is in the process of being built. I may even buy a domain name!

4/15/03- Haven't really heard anything else that sounds like a decent bit of information about Halloween Horror Nights 2003 in a while except for something I noticed, which may or may not mean anything. I recently bought an annual pass to the park and on the little booklet that comes with the pass, HHN was listed as an event for Universal Studios and not Islands of Adventure. They probably never updated the books, but...
3/12/03- Seems kind of early still, but so far, it sounds like this years name is Halloween Horror Nights: Islands of Fear... Midnight Falls. We'll see what happens.
2/24/03- I've heard some new information on HHN 2003, but remember that these are just rumors. Sounds like this is in the same idea of the last rumor. What I've heard now is that Universal may make the theme for this year as the Asylum with an evil doctor that runs it (the logo). Inside the asylum haunted house, you would find all of the previous leaders of HHN (Caretaker, Jack, Eddie, Crypt Keeper, etc.) as the monsters in it. The idea sounds kind of like Busch Garden's Howl O Scream's Escape from Insanity, but with all of this talk of including all of the previous monsters this year, all of these rumors may be fact based...

I've also heard that Suess Landings may not be empty this year. Apparently, Mrs. Gisel (Dr. Suess's wife) decided to allow something to be done in her husbands land this year, but not too scary. Think of a Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party, only with Dr. Seuss or Universal characters.

1/22/03- Someone just sent me this rumor. Sounds a little far fetched to me (means Universal won't spend the money), but it was the idea that since 2003 will be Halloween Horror Night's 13th year, all of the previous "head monsters" (ie.-The caretaker, Jack, etc.) will come back to haunt both Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure. If you think about it, this would be really cool having both parks open and made into a Super Park. Also, if you add up all of the lands in both parks, they all add up to 13 (port of entry, suess landings, Lost continent, jurassic park, toon lagoon, Marvel superhero island, backlot, new york, hollywood, amity, sanfransico, world showcase, and Kidszone) , so each monster could have its own land. Like I said. Sounds really cool, but probably won't happen because Universal would have to more than double their HHN budget. Still a cool idea.

11/19/02- As far as we know, Halloween Horror Nights will remain at Islands of Adventure for the years to come.

10/2/02The peak nights of HHN have begun to sell out. Buy your advanced tickets soon.

10/1/02-No definite answer on this until HHN opens up, but there is a possibility that the Hulk will be renamed to The Green Goblin for the event. It does make sense. The Hulk is a superhero. The Green Goblin is a villian. For HHN, the villians take over Mavel Superhero Island, so it would work with the coaster and both characters being green. It would also fit in with the Spiderman thing that they have going on in that island. Besides from the Spiderman ride (the villians take over and steal the statue of liberty), they also have the Maximum Carnage Haunted House. Carnage is a Spiderman villian, so adding the Green Goblin would fit perfectly.

9/25/02-From Halloween Horror Nights.com, it turns out that there would be more than the Bill and Ted Show. It won't be a special show, but The 8th Voyage of Sinbad will be shown on HHN peak nights (friday and saturday).

Remember! The start of halloween horror nights is getting close. If you tune into many local radio stations, you may have a chance to win free tickets.

9/6/02-From what I've heard so far there will only be one Halloween show (says it on the official site), but that's subject to change. The Bill and Ted show will be put in the Toon Lagoon theatre, and a set will be built to look like MIB Headquaters, and will feature scooby doo characters, Austin Powers, Spiderman, and others.

9/6/02-More from the official site:

He has come for you. Take a terrifying journey through your own worst fears as the Caretaker transforms Islands of Adventure into one disturbing horrifying nightmare after another.

Each Island will be transformed into a darkened twisted nightmarish version of itself. Mutant half-dinosaur/half-humans will stalk guest amidst the lush foilage of Jurassic Park. Lost souls and demons will inhabit a horrible world of fire and fear throughout the darkened corridors of The Lost Continent. Evil super-villains will reign supreme amidst the foreboding cityscape of Marvel Superhero Island. The curved streets of Suess Landing will become twisted pathways to unexpected places, and the comin environment of Toon Lagoon will become the stage for fiendish confrontations with childhood nightmares brought to life.

There's no turning back now.

9/4/02-Here's the official 2002 Event Listings for Halloween Horror Nights: Islands of Fear that were recently posted on Halloween Horror Nights.com. On this page, I'm kind of shortening the information. Check out the 2002 Events page for more detailed information.

Sorry, No parade this year.

9/3/02- The official symbol of halloween Horror nights has been choosen. His name is Alfred Kane, and he's the caretaker of the Islands of Fear.

9/3/02- Here's some information that I got off of Screamscape.com:

Jurassic Park - Watch out for Half Human and Half Dinosaur mutant creatures stalking the park and take a very dark special ride through the JP River Adventure. A couple of haunt concepts are floating around the rumor mill right now. One claims they will use the long pathways of the Triceratops Encounter for something called Extinction while another talks about using the Camp Jurassic area for a maze called Fear Factor.

Lost Continent - Lost Souls and Demons rule a world of Fire & Darkness. The desolate castle queue of Dueling Dragons will also be inhabitated for the first time. There are also rumors of a modified version of the Sinbad show for the event. No one has mentioned it yet, but I’d also love to see them transform the entire Posiedon’s Fury area into one large walk through Haunt as well. Just turn on all the effects and open all the doors, the put a bunch of scary monsters into hiding throughout.

Marvel Island - Super Villains have taken over the Super Hero Island. Marvel is said to have it’s own haunted maze and the rumor from June was to theme it to the Spider-man villians: Venom & Carnage.

Toon Lagoon - A place where childhood Nightmares have come to life. The insider rumors talk about a Scary Tales maze that would be a revamp of a 2001 haunt. I’m not sure where this would go but there was once talk about creating something along the many twisted pathways around Me Ship, The Olive behind the Popeye ride.

Seuss Landing - Twisted pathways to unexpected places. I’ve been told not to expect much to happen here due to the kiddie nature of the Suess environment. Seuss will be mearly a gateway on to the sound stages where we’ll find one or two major mazes. We’ve heard that one of the soundstages may be themed to John Carpenter’s The Thing as they recreate the creep Arctic Outpost complete with the mutant dog monster. This is probably one of my favorite horror films of all time, so I’ll be a happy camper.

Haunted Mazes & More - The press release claims that we can expect at least 5 all new haunted mazes this year as well as new live shows and an all new version of the ever popular Bill & Ted show that will take place in the Toon Lagoon theater.

8/30/02- It's been official for a while now, but I haven't been updating. Halloween Horror nights is going to be at Islands of Adventure this year instead of Universal Studios. The name will be something like Halloween Horror Nights, Five Islands of Fear. Some of the haunted houses that we know of so far are Scary tales II, a sequel to last years heavily themed Scary tales, which will be outdoors, located in the twisted paths behind Popeye and Bluto's Bilge Raft Barges. In Marvel Superhero island there will be a haunted house themed towards Spiderman's Venom located in a building erected behind Dr. Doom. Jurassic park would have mutant dinosaurs attacking you in the paths of Triceratops Discovery Trail. Suess landings probably won't have anything, besides a path going back to the soundstages where they will have a haunted house (like normal). I'll get more information as I find out about it.
