The Wyken Pippin |
Built in the 1930's The "Wyken Pippin" takes it's name from an old apple tree that stood on the site where the pub was built. Rumour has it that the tree was so big that the roots had to be dynamited out of the ground. |
The Wyken Pippin apple was introduced into the UK in 1720 by Lord Craven of Coombe abbey who discovered it on his travels through Belgium and Holland and planted it in the garden of Wyken Manor house. The apple was one of Warwickshire's favourite dessert apples until the late 1800's. The original tree was still in existence in 1827. |
