Cast all your cares upon him, for he cares for you’ (1 Peter 5:7)
God wants to make a trade with us. He wants us to give Him all our cares, our problems and failures to Him and He will give us something much better in return. He will take them all and for them He will care for us.
I have always been a person to worry. I use to worry about everything., from the things I would wear, whether I would have enough money, to what others thought about me. I worried about everything. And for me to do what the words says and cast all my cares upon Him, was something nearly impossible.
Many people want God to take care of them while at the same time worry and try to find answers to their problems, instead of waiting upon God’s direction. They wallowing around in their own trash, but still want peace and assurance from God. That was me. I kept going back to my trash heap after giving it to God. I kept trying to figure out ways and answer to them all.
God works alone. The word says, ‘my thoughts are above your thoughts and my ways above your ways’ (Isaiah 55 8-9) God can not possibly fix our problems, mend our broken hearts and rid us of our trash, if we keep trying to fix them ourselves.
If we give all that over to God. If we cast all our cares upon Him, that’s where we must leave them. We can not keep going back there.
I prayed about all my problems, and there is nothing wrong with praying for Gods help, but sometimes, well most of the time for me, I prayed more out of anxiety more than of faith.
To often we spend time seeking God for the answers to our problem’s when what we should be doing is just seeking Him. As long as we continue to seek the ways of God and stay under His wings ‘under His wings shall you trust and find refuge’ (psalms 91:4) we will find what ever we are searching for.
As soon as we start seeking just answers to our problems and stop just seeking Him and fulfilling our own selfish desires and wants, rather than God’s will, we remove ourselves from the secret places and from the shadows of His wings
Jesus assures us that our heavenly Father knows all we need before we ask Him for them. So why worry about them? Instead of worrying about them we should be fixing our attentions on important things, - the things of God.
‘But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all other things will be given unto you’ (Matthew 6:33) I finally realised that I didn’t have to worry about anything, not even my spiritual growth. My first priority was to seek first the kingdom of God and I would grow. If we seek Him, in His time, not ours, he will provide the many things that we want answers to.
But because I was a person to worry, it was a habit that I had developed and I kept going back and back to my trash heaps. Many a time something would come up ad I would fall back into my pit and I would start worrying about something that I had previously given to God.
It was one of those days, when I was having a tough time with something that I had already given to God. I was on my last strings, about ready to give up. I cried out to Him, wanting Him to take it all away. Then He said to me through a friend ‘Aly, I don’t know what you are talking about, you gave that to me a long time ago and I places it in the forgetful place, never to be touched again, you keep on worrying about it and going back time and time again, and in doing so asking me to go back there which I can’t do’.
Something really hit me that day. When we give something to god, He forgets about them, He really does. ‘As far as the east is from the west and the north from the south, He will forgive our transgressions’ ( Psalms 103:12). And he expects us to also.
Over the next few days of hearing that, a verse kept coming up. Many times someone would quote me a verse out of Matthew ‘And who of you can add a day to their life by worrying about it’
And of course the answer to that is no one. But we can surely shorten our life by worrying about it!
We need to stop worrying about things and purely rely on the Lord for all things, to be totally dependent on Him. We need to be like the birds that sing all day with out a care in the world. They fully rely on the Lord for their survival. ‘Look at the birds of the air, they are neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father keeps feeding them. Are you not worth more than they?’ (Matthew 6:26)
Have you ever seen a bird pacing backwards and forwards worrying about where their next worm will come from? I know I haven’t. They fully on God for all that they need. We also need to live like that.
We can not expect to understand the reason behind all the trials that we may face in our lives. But worrying about them and to keep picking up our trash doesn’t accomplish anything. We need to trust God that He will provide all that we need to know and want. ‘Choose to be satisfied to know the one who knows and does all things well’
‘Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving. Let your requests be made know to God and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding will guard your heart and minds.. (Philippians 4:67)
