practical, no nonsense self-defense. Our training philosophy centers on a
streamlined system that puts principles over techniques. By internalizing these
principles, the instinctive movement that is necessary for effective self-defense
is possible. All 'sport' aspects have been removed so that nothing interferes
with our goal of teaching pure, simple and effective self-defense.
The Full Armor Martial Arts Institute is a martial arts (plural) school
because we teach principles from more than one martial art. While our primary
arts are Modern Arnis and CSS Karate-Do, we do not teach pure Modern
Arnis or pure CSS Karate-Do. Instead, we focus on common combat principles
and methods of execution, and let those permeate everything we teach.
The Full Armor Martial Arts Institute is an American school, even though
our base arts are foreign in origin (Filipino and Japanese). While we respect
our arts roots and the masters before us, our school reflects American ideals
and virtues. We use predominantly American terminology, except for the few
occasions when there is no english translation and instead of our moral
foundation being built on Buddhism or Taoism, it is built on Christianity.
Achieving Black Belt at The Full Armor Martial Arts Institute is a serious
matter and not everyone is capable of reaching that milestone. We have one
standard and it is not lowered for any man, woman or child. It is not our
intent to be unreasonable, but there are many mental and physical requirements
that prohibit some from reaching what we hold as expert level. A Black Belt
must be able to do more than punch and kick; he/she must also understand
the principles involved and be able to pass that information on to others in a
clear, concise and straightforward manner.
The same high standards are found at the beginner, intermediate and
advanced ranks as well. When you have achieved the degree of skill necessary
for your level, you will invited to test. Lower level tests are open to friends and
family to watch. Higher level exams will be done in private, with a cermony
following for the successful student.
