My Online Friends

Beth from Massachussetts
Beth and I traveled together to the Midwest in July 1999 to visit a bunch of Laura Ingalls Wilder sites. We had a wonderful time and it was a pleasure and privilege to get to know Beth "in real life." She is currently a college student at Fisher College in Boston, MA. Beth's site features some Laura Ingalls Wilder/Little House pages as well as pages on her various interests such as reading and art.

Donna Green from Mississippi
Donna Green and I are both Computer Discovery teachers for 8th graders in Mississippi. I thoroughly enjoyed meeting her and working with her during our training workshop at MSU several years ago. Donna's site contains pages about her family and her class.

Hope from NC
I have met Hope twice in Mansfield, MO, the site of Laura Ingalls Wilder home & museum. We are both big LIW fans. Hope is a dear, sweet friend of mine who works for Bookbag magazine and has recently wrote a LIW unit that I know teachers and fans alike will just love! Hope's site contains pictures from Rocky Ridge Day 1997 as well as pictures of her family (including her adorable niece Helen).

Laura Sullivan from NYC
I have had the pleasure of meeting Laura three times now. We first met in 1997 in Mansfield, MO and again in 1999 in DeSmet, SD while on Laura Ingalls Wilder pilgrimages. In October of 2000, she flew to Memphis and we drove to Mansfield for the 11th annual Rocky Ridge Day. She is a wonderful friend of mine. Laura's site contains information about music in the Little House books. She also has a business site at Scrapbook Photos where she sells photography prints.

Lisette Brenner from Indiana
Lisette is one of my Laura Ingalls Wilder fan friends that I had the privilege of meeting at Rocky Ridge Day in Mansfield, MO, in 1997. I have also been a guest in her home on two different occasions and had a wonderful time with her and her family. She has 5 beautiful children and a wonderful husband. Lisette's site contains pictures of her family as well as information about home birthing (she is a part-time doula).

Penny Nelson from Washington
I got to meet Penny once for Rocky Ridge Day in 1997. She is a lovely person who has done some great genealogical research on the Wilder family. I hope to one day see her again. Penny's site also contains pictures from Rocky Ridge Day 1997.

Rob Lyon
I've known Rob for 13 years now. Aside from my brothers, he is my best guy friend. He and his family have all been special friends of mine through the years. Rob's site contains science fiction art stuff. I've never made it past the first click or two so I really don't know what else is on there.

Friends Without Faces

We sit and we type, and we stare at our screens
We all have to wonder, what this possibly means.

With our mouse we roam, through the rooms in a maze
Looking for something or someone, as we sit in a daze.

We chat with each other, we type all our woes
Small groups we do form, and gang up on our foes.

We wait for somebody, to type out our name
We want recognition, but it is always the same.

We give kisses and hugs, and sometimes flirt
In IMs we chat deeply, and reveal why we hurt.

We do form friendships - but - why we don't know
But some of these friendships, will flourish and grow.

Why is it on screen, we can be so bold
Telling our secrets, that have never been told.

Why is it we share, the thoughts in our mind
With those we can't see, as though we were blind.

The answer is simple, it is as clear as a bell.
We all have our problems, and need someone to tell.

We can't tell real people, but tell someone we must
So we turn to the 'puter, and to those we can trust.

Even though it is crazy, the truth still remains
They are Friends Without Faces, and odd little names.
