Ingredients
- 1 pound chopped veal or beef
- 1 pound chopped lean pork
- 4 slices bread soaked in milk and squeezed dry
- 1 onion, chopped fine
- 1-1/2 tablespoons butter
- 2 eggs, lightly beaten
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon allspice
- 1/4 teaspoon pepper
- 2 to 3 slices bacon
- bread crumbs*
* Try using 10 ounces of crushed garlic croutons insttead of bread crumbs.
Directions
- Saute onion in butter until soft. Add to bread, beef and pork, together with salt, pepper, allspice and eggs, mixing well.
- Butter a loaf pan, sprinkle it with bread crumbs and fill it with meat mixture.
- Level top with a spoon, sprinkle with bread crumbs and place bacon on top, or if desired, substitute flakes of butter for bacon.
- Bake in 350 degree oven for 1-1/2 hours.
Serves 6.
