Attachment Parenting

What is attachment parenting ? When I first heard that I had no clue what it was. That is what gave me the idea for the page.
This is what Attachment Parenting is all about, you may do some of these or all:

Co-sleeping: you may be in the same bed (family bed) or may have the crib pushed up against your bed with the rail down.

Extending and exclusive breastfeeding

Home birth: midwifes are becoming very popular again.

No infant/mother separation

Homeschooling

Working from home

Carrying baby frequently: this can be with or without a sling, snuggli,or a backpack.

Here are some of my favorite links that provide great information and products.

My thoughts on breastfeeding older children.

People certainly have their own "views" on how long a child should be nursed, however I believe we should consider the affects on our children . I myself continued to nurse till my son was two years old. I am very glad that I did it that way, although at times if you would have asked me I would have said differently. =) But, all in all, when it comes down to it I'm very happy with the effects. He is a wonderful, healthy, intelligent child.  If I had gone with the popularity vote that is so cast upon us by society or even family I would not have continued that long. I did however till I felt he was ready to stop. And once we stopped he was very content. It took a few days for him to stop asking for it, but I believe it was more out of habit and comfort. Now he knows it is for babies and he is not a baby anymore. My suggestion as long as you are comfortable with it then do it.

I would recommend the book;

            "Mothering Your Nursing Toddler"

                                          By, Norma Jane Bumgarner

Available through the La Leche League. I recommend it to everyone who is nursing a older child.

''Where would you like to swim next?''

BY BRENDA ROBINSON
My son needs me, I know this is true...
but I know he also wants me too.
I know because he laughs with delight
when he's about to nurse at night
he squirms with anticipation
and knows he'll get a warm reception
he's older now with more needs than ever
but his wants are basic - just his mother.

BY ROBYN STEWARD

It is cold outside
and the snow is falling.
But I am warm inside,
with my tot on my lap.
Nursing, laughing, smiling, cuddling.
Our fingers are playing their little game,
intertwining each other,
big and tiny.
His feet are up on my shoulder
and in my face.
I nibble his toes,
he smiles,
and milk dribbles from the corner
of his mouth.
I have been told these
precious moments fly by,
but for now I'll sit in this chair,
and enjoy every moment
with my son.
Nursing, laughing, smiling, and cuddling.

Mother, oh Mother, come shake out your cloth
empty the dustpan, poison the moth,
hang out the washing and butter the bread,
sew on a button and make up a bed.
Where is the mother whose house is so shocking?
She's up in the nursery, blissfully rocking.

Oh, I've grown shiftless as Little Boy Blue
(lullaby, rockaby, lullaby loo).
Dishes are waiting and bills are past due
(pat-a-cake, darling, and peek, peekaboo).
The shopping's not done and there's nothing for stew
and out in the yard there's a hullabaloo
but I'm playing Kanga and this is my Roo.
Look! Aren't her eyes the most wonderful hue?
(lullaby, rockaby, lullaby loo).

The cleaning and scrubbing will wait till tomorrow,
for children grow up, as I've learned to my sorrow.
So quiet down, cobwebs. Dust go to sleep.
I'm rocking my baby and babies don't keep.
