George Duda

"E-books should take into account HOW a teacher presents content in class, perhaps the teacher him/herself, the dynamism of what media can offer, and other variables such as assessment and testing (students still care about grades), grade feedback, asking questions, intuitive inter-activity, and the like." George Duda, Vice President, Publishing Solutions at GLC

Ebooks

What are they?

An e-book is different from a paper book because it is not limited to pictures and text that cannot change rapidly; it can integrate video, audio, animation, and even interactive simulation into what the person is "reading", and updates can be added without the cost of reproducing the entire book.

An e-book is an electronic book that can be read digitally on a computer screen, a special e-book reader, a personal digital assistant (PDA), or even a mobile phone. E-books are presented on a screen rather than on paper. The most popular form of an ebook is the .pdf file, however there are several different ebook readers on the market now and many different forms of ebook.

"With respect to students with disabilities, check the law called NIMAS; which is a standard digital format for e-text. This law will require schools to have tools such as text-readers on hand. We use the ClassMate Reader, Start-to-Finish audio books and a program called SOLO to help students with disabilities improve their literacy skills. You can do almost everything you can with regular books, except “smell” them." Valc

Randol Larson

"For Larson who teaches computer networking courses at Estrella Mountain Community College near Phoenix, up-to-date content is absolutely critical. "In my opinion, technology textbooks are a waste of natural resources," he says. "They're out of date the moment they're published."
