Jacob Grubb, of Grayson County, Virginia

This Jacob Grubb lived in Grayson County and so far it doesn't appear that he is descended from the Henry Grubb family. Jacob is head of the only other Grubb family in Grayson County. Because Jacob and William Grubb lived close to each other, it seems there might be a good possibility that they would be related in some manner. The census reports indicate that both Jacob and William arrived in Grayson County sometime between 1830 and 1840.
One source that I have on Jacob was that he was born abt 1790 in Germany. Arrived in America abt 1810 married Eleanor (b.c.1800) and settled in the Grubb's Chapel area of Grayson Co.
-From Carl Pendergrass in March 2000.
Jacob Grubb is listed as arriving from Germany in the "Bicentennial Heritage of Grayson Co, Va." The source listed is the 1870 census annotated by Weaver and Stamper and Minnie Hall.

Jacob Grubb of Grayson Co. Virginia Research is ongoing for my great grandfather Andrew Jackson Grubb concerning a number of questions which arise when sorting out the at least two men named Andrew Jackson Grubb who were within five years in age of each other and who were in the same area of Grayson County, Va. I think there is also another Andrew Jackson Grubb of the same age group in North Carolina, maybe Rowan or Davidson County. The Grayson men are: Andrew Jackson Grubb ["Jack"; "A. J."], born 20 Feb 1836, son of Jacob, married Elizabeth Egner Andrew Jackson Grubb, born 17 Sep 1838, son of William, married Martha Boyer Perhaps the best way to update your website is to simply remove the "killed at Ft. Donalson" for the Andrew Jackson Grubb born 20 Feb 1836, married Elizabeth Egner 1870. The reason for this will be clear as you read on. ERROR in DATA: For those of us interested in Confederate ancestors the error in data on Andrew Jackson "Jack" Grubb leaps from the webpage. If he were killed at Ft. Donelson [ca 1861-1865] he could not have married in 1870. DEATH RECORD: I have a certified copy of the death certificate of A. Jackson Grubb [aka Jack, A.J.], widowed, born 20 Feb 1836 Va son of Jacob Grubb born N.C. and Nellie Richardson born N. C. He died 1 July 1921 Rockholds, Whitley County, Kentucky, of Tuberculous of Lungs. The informant was James Smith, Rockholds, Ky., who may be the husband of Jack's daughter Cora. Jack's burial is listed as 2 July 1921, Smith Cemetery. [SOURCE: Death Certificate of A. Jackson Grubb, Registered No. 16377 marked DELAY, filed 20 August 1918, Registration District No. 7836, District No. 9, Whitley County, Kentucky, Bureau of Vital Statistics, Commonwealth of Kentucky, Frankfort, Ky.] Research indicates that Jack is buried in the Egner Cemetery, Whitley Co., rather than Smith Cemetery. SOURCE: online Whitley County GenWeb site, cemetery survey from the Three Volumes of Whitley County Cemeteries © Charlie Maynard Cornelius "Page 147 M/4 C/2 EGNER CEMETERY at Faber, KY (By Edgar M. MARRIAGE: I do not have documentation of his marriage to Elizabeth "Lizzie" Egner, born 15 Feb 1846 Kentucky, died 23 June 1918. I have her death certificate showing cause of death Pulmonary Tuberculosis. The informant for her death was Cora Smith of Rockholds, Ky. There was no entry for Place of Burial. MILITARY SERVICE: Using information from a letter from Edgar Egner descendant of Jack and Lizzie Grubb, Whitley Co., Ky, I obtained Jack's pension file. On 30 Aug 1912 Andrew Jackson Grubb, Whitley County, Kentucky, filed Soldier's Application for Pension No. 1327 with State of Kentucky. He states he was a soldier from the State of Va and a member of Co. C 45 Va Regt Inf and that he was borned in Grayson Co. Va in the year of 1836. "I enlisted in Co. C 45 Va Regt Va Inf in the year 1861. Served under Col Wm Brown and Edd Harman my captains Name was M. B. Cox". "I walked out when we Surrendered. I was then in Withe Co Va this was in the year of 1865." He stated that he had been a resident of Kentucky "Since the date of 1876 (36 years)". [SOURCE: Andrew J. Grubb, Confederate Pension File No. 1327, Kentucky State Archives, Frankfort, Kentucky.] I would like to know how the Andrew Jackson Grubb who married Martha Boyer signed his name and what name he "went by". What was his occupation before and after the war? Do you have any research contacts who may know? FAMILY TRADITION: My father's sister, Dolly Opal Grubb Watson, age 91 and granddaughter of Andrew Jackson Grubb born 1836, remembers visiting her grandfather in Whitley County, Kentucky, when she was a child. She was age 10 when he died and so was old enough to have some memories of him. She says that his Confederate uniform always hung on the wall by the fireplace but after he died someone burnt it because they thought it was junk. -From Ann Nobles in August 2002

I have a copy of an obit for Elizabeth "Aunt Betty" (Porter) Grubb wife of Conrad Grubb. ( This seems to change his name from Coonrod to Conrad). She was born 2-24-1828 in Grayson Co. VA. and died 4-17-1928, (living a little more than a 100 years) at the home of her daughter Mrs Worth Clark in Waynoda, Oklahoma. She was preceded in death by several years by her two sons Clark and Isom. Her other child was a daughter. She is survived by 9 Grand children and Several Great Grand children. Her request was to be brought back to be buried beside her husband in the old Porter cemetery (old home place of Aunt Betty) now owned by Mr. Frank Grubb. This was written by one who knew her, Mittie R. Young, Grant, Va.

Jacob Grubb Jr. was born May 4, 1834 in VA and died January 29, 1924 in Grayson County, VA. Margaret Haga was born July 16, 1838 in VA and died October 1, 1918 in Grayson County. They were married January 20, 1856. They had a daughter named Sarah Letitia Grubb who married a Fielden Hash (my gggrandfather) in 1876. I have a letter written by Jacob Grubb to Fielden Hash in November 1916. There is an article by Mrs. Richard Wingfield in a book entitled the History of Grayson County, Virginia that references Jacob and Margaret. I also have a group photograph of Jacob and Margaret Grubb with all their grown children.

Jestin Leona Hash was a sister to my grandmother Malinda Patra Hash Bateman. Unfortunately, I don't any information on Grubb past Jacob Grubb, Sr., b. 1790, married to Eleanor (Nellie) Richardson, b. abt. 1800. I do have alot of information on Margaret Haga married to Jacob Grubb, Jr. (the parents of Celia Jane Grubb) and I have a photo of the family that was sent to me.
