What's Happening in Mary Frances' World

Mary Frances
Hi! I'm Mary Frances

Updated 8/2/98

Hi......I'm glad you decided to visit my part of our Home Page!

I have included things in my World that I find of interest. You will find recipes (all tested by me, of course) and crafts ideas.

I also include a monthly "Lady Bug of the Month" Award for a special friend or family member who has had a positive impact on my life during the past month as a way to say a special "Thank You".

Anyway, hope you enjoy!

Well, I finally have had some success in updating My Quilt Connection so you might want to check that out as well as my Lady Bug Connection, my Recipes From Previous Months and some Crafts. I'm in the process of adding a "Friends" Page, also which will link with some of my friend's pages.

LADY BUG OF THE MONTH AWARD

The August 1998 Lady Bug Award goes to Laurie Pennel!

Laurie Ann Pennell

Laurie Pennell is my across-the-street neighbor. She is the wife of one of Bill's best friends, Tommy, and the daughter-in-law of one of my good friends, Jean Pennell. (Oh, Jean, I do need a picture of you.) I've known Laurie for about 13-14 years and she has been a good neighbor and a good friend. She's one of those old-fashioned-you-can-come-in-my-dirty-house-I-need-a-cup -of-sugar neighbors that we all grew up with but so seldom find. We are complete opposites: I'm tall, she's short; I'm in my 50's, she's in her 30's; etc. but it doesn't matter. We both love animals, especially dogs, love to shop and love messing around. It's so nice when couples can all go out together and everyone gets along. Usually on a Saturday night, you can find all five of us...Bill, Tommy, Laurie, Jean and I going out to eat and then to grocery shop at Wal Mart...Gosh, what an exciting life!

As friends and neighbors, we have been through a lot together. Good times and bad times! Laurie and Tommy are the kind of neighbors that help you out and that you help out. I'll never forget when Laurie and I fooled Tommy with Bill's help into mowing, trimming, weedeating and sweating getting all our acreage ready of an "office party"....it turned out to be a surprise party for Tommy for his 40th birthday. Both our places were beautiful and Tommy and Bill were exhausted from all that work....boy, did we keep a secret that time...for once...right, Laurie! Another time I'll always remember was when Laurie and I went to Glamour Shots for our photos....we had a blast! Laughed until we almost peed all over ourselves!

Anyway, I chose Laurie as the July Lady Bug as a celebration for her one-year anniversary in her new career. She is a licensed Dog Groomer at PetCo in Sugar Land and has a wonderful future ahead of her!

Thank you, Lady Bug Laurie!

I like to enter recipes into contests and submit them to the yearly Hearld Coaster Holiday Cookbook that our local newspaper prints at Thanksgiving. I have received first place twice (with a $25 prize and my picture in the paper) and honorable mention many times. I have also received second prize and several honorable mentions at the yearly Czech Fest for my submissions.

Several years ago, I wrote a cookbook that I shared with family and friends, some day, I will attempt that venture again with the use of the computer. I handwrote and illustrated the first one, then xeroxed and bound it. I envision my next recipe book creation to be much more sophisticated!!!

My recipes have been accepted on the web at http://www.CookieRecipe.com/ - Explore the links below and see if you can find mine on the Cookie Recipe Page! Hint: Look for Carl Reiner Cookies.

I really like to cook and share my creations with others. Hope you enjoy!
