My grandmother said this about her father. He was an accomplished fiddle player who loved to play at barn dances. At one time he had an violin of great value. Beside being a musician he was a dreamer and loved to fish. He was not cut out to be a farmer and would go fishing when he was supposed to be tending crops. When Mary's father gave him land to farm he failed at it. I believe he was a Quaker. The Gerens and the Walkers farmed in a big way in Black Hawk county and Isaac was the hired hand who married the farmer's daughter. When they were divorced Mary moved to Des Moines to seek work and took Ivadell and Margaret with her. Emma Marie stayed with Aquila Walker, her grandfather, and her great grandmother, Mary Geren. Isaac stayed with my mother's family when she was a girl and she remembers him driving sulkies in trotting races. I know I would have liked this man even if he couldn't farm an acre! When I was a child, visits to Iva would amaze me. She was the most talkative person I had very met. She talked non-stop. She was tall and thin and had a hooked nose and certainly looked like a witch to a child. But, she was sweet-natured and kind. Emma was the baby and her great grandmother spoiled her. She was an independent sort. She had a motorcycle with a sidecar and would ride it around the countryside. . .quite shocking behavior for a woman in those days. Her first husband died and her second was a military officer. I only remember him vaguely. . .but the family thought very highly of him. Tim and Marie lived in Glendale, California. They had two children. My grandmother said they were beautiful children. The son went to Hollywood to be in the movies and died in his twenties. The daughter married and moved to Michigan.

Query:
I believe that Isaac is the son of the family listed above him, but I do not have proof other than a census record of the family with a son Isaac, who is the right age, listed and living in the correct area, and the tombstones in Spring Creek. It is a very good possibility. Does anyone know more about this family? Possibly more information can be found in Quaker records. . . .Aquila

Margaret Angeline Lane

b. 2 Jun 1895 at LaPorte City, Black Hawk, Iowa
d. 6 Jul 1969 in Fayette, Fayette, Iowa
bur. 9 Jul 1969 in Highland Memorial Gardens, Des Moines, Polk, Iowa
m. 26 Jul 1915 in Des Moines, Polk, Iowa to

Clarence Leroy Robb

My grandmother's birth date is in question. She always said that she was fourteen when she got married. When she applied for a copy of her birth certificate it showed that she was five or six years older than she thought. She had trouble obtaining that certificate as the record seemed to be non-existent. . .so she may have been more correct about her age than the certificate she produced for the Social Security office. If that is the case she was born around 1900.

Christina and her husband, Jospeh Rowland, were pioneers in Pennsylvania and Ohio. They had eight children.

Query: I have no idea if Christina is related to the Lane family on my mother's side. That would be an interesting connection.
